The most anticipated match of WrestleMania 42 Night Two was reserved for the main event tonight as the WWE Universe witnessed Roman Reigns and CM Punk go to war for the World Heavyweight Championship.

The OTC emerged as the winner of the 2026 Royal Rumble earlier in the year and chose CM Punk as its challenger on Monday Night RAW following the Rumble.

Ever since then, both men have been at each other’s throats and spent the last few weeks hurling insults at each other as the rivalry between them became incredibly personal.

The match was off to a brutal start with CM Punk taking control for the early stages of the match as he took the action to the outside of the ring. That’s where things turned for Roman as he took advantage of the surroundings to get back into the match.

They went back into the ring shortly afterwards, and Roman got a nearfall with a wicked Superman Punch. He looked to put an end to Punk with a huge Spear, but the Second City Saint surprised him with a running knee into the corner.

Punk then took control again and laid Roman out on the WWE announce desk and looked to deliver an Elbow Drop on the OTC, but took too long and Roman attacked him on the turnbuckle, trapping him upside down.

He unleashed a vicious attack on Punk as he hit him with three Superman Punches and followed that up with Steel Steps to his face, busting him open in the process. He then put Punk through the announce table with a huge powerbomb.

Roman was in complete control of the match after the powerbomb and looked to end it with a Spear inside the ring, but CM Punk showed incredible resilience and hit him with a GTS, but Roman kicked out at the last second.

He tried to hit him with another GTS, but Roman reversed it and hit a Spear on Punk, but it was the champion’s turn to kick out at the last second this time. Reigns looked to humiliate Punk with a GTS of his own, but Punk turned it around with a Roundhouse kick.

Both men then traded submission moves as they looked to make each other tap out, but that didn’t work for either of them. They then traded blows despite being completely spent as they fell to their knees.

Punk distracted the referee with his hand tape and hit Roman with a low blow in a desperate attempt to retain the belt. He followed it up with a GTS, but the WWE megastar kicked out at the last second once again.

CM Punk ultimately delivered the Elbow Drop on the announce table and looked to follow it up with two GTS to Reigns, but collapsed on the second attempt. Roman recovered in time to hit a couple of Spears on CM Punk to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
