Becky Lynch had been dealing with the combined forces of Damage CTRL at the start of the year until she found an unlikely ally in WWE Hall of Famer Lita who came to her aid.

Lita and Lynch stuck together to face off with Bayley’s group and added reinforcements in the form of Trish Stratus to win a big six-woman tag team match at WrestleMania 39.

Before that match, however, Becky Lynch and Lita added to their legacy when they defeated IYO SKY and Dakota Kai to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

On the 10th of April edition of Raw, Lita was attacked backstage leaving Trish Stratus to team with Lynch in her title defense against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Stratus lost the fall to cost Lita and Lynch the titles and afterward, the Canadian star took out The Man.

Speaking on the My Love Letter to Wrestling podcast Becky Lynch reflected on her storyline with Lita and says she doesn’t think winning the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship was ever part of the plan:

“Well, it was all a bit crazy (winning Women’s Tag Titles with Lita). When that was decided, I don’t think that was never meant to be the plan and then they just took a side road and decided that would be the best outcome. I think what was so great going into that match was that nobody knew what was going to happen and people had ideas and this could happen and then we could go this way or we could go that way and there was so many ways we could go.

“Then to be standing side by side with the woman that inspired you to get into this in the first place when we’re talking about that grassroots thing of being back and I was coming down with my dyed red hair and my baggy pants and wearing my thong outside my clothes and trying to look like Lita and here I was standing side by side as an equal about to go capture the tag titles.

“If you’re telling your teenage self that’s gonna happen when you’re older, teenage self would slap you across the face and tell you to get realistic, you know what I mean? So yeah, it was really awesome but she’s over the years become such a great friend and a mentor and I think because she was that misfit, that little rock and roll grunger that had big dreams and she recognized that in me, that it didn’t necessarily fit the mold but I had that love for the business and I think we’ve kind of been kindred spirits in that way.

“Sometimes as a babyface, I almost don’t know how to interact with other babyfaces because The Man is so untrusting of everybody because she’s been burned so many times that sometimes I’m like… hello friend? (she laughed) I feel very awkward in that setting but if I was going to have a tag team partner, you couldn’t ask for better.

“But even having gotten to do the story with her last year, as short as it was, it was one of the stories in wrestling that I’ve been most proud of and one of the matches I’m most proud of so now I’ve had a lot of history with the person who inspired me the most, the woman who inspired me the most which is great.”

Becky Lynch returned to Raw for the first time since Trish Stratus turned on her on the 8th of May, gaining a measure of revenge on the woman who cost her and Lita their gold.
