Drew McIntyre Reveals If He Considered Leaving WWE

Drew McIntyre is staying in WWE long term and he has addressed if he thought that he might leave the company.

For nearly a full year, there were plenty of reports and updates about the contract status of former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. That’s because it was well-known that the Scottish Warrior’s contract was set to expire at some point after WrestleMania 40.

In late April, it was reported that Drew McIntyre had re-signed with WWE on a big money deal that is likely for at least three years. It was even officially announced by The Rock on Instagram, who gifted McIntyre a sword while he was at dinner with his wife and WWE President Nick Khan to celebrate the deal.

The 38-year-old McIntyre (39 on June 5th) has been a pro wrestler for over 20 years and started with WWE at 22 years old. Since then he’s held multiple championships, been fired, got re-hired a few years later and has three WWE World Championship reigns.

Sadly for McIntyre, that last reign lasted only about five minutes after being attacked by CM Punk, and then Damian Priest cashed in Money in the Bank to leave WrestleMania 40 as the new World Heavyweight Champion.

While talking to PWInsider, Drew McIntyre spoke about his contract situation and if he thought about leaving WWE.

“It was never a consideration, no. I’m wrestling with the WWE, I don’t think…in the sense that, what am I gonna go wrestle somewhere else cause this is where I want to wrestle. I don’t want to be anywhere else but our family has gone through a lot over the past year.”

“My wife’s sister unfortunately passed a year ago yesterday. And that was very difficult and I felt like I’m gonna have to take some serious time for my family. And you know, there was a period where I was like, maybe I’ll just have to take a little break and come back and you know, just some uncertainty but no, thankfully as a family we came together and you know, WWE gave me the time I needed whenever I needed it during that period.”

“And in the end, you know, as a family, we came together, we had a conversation, what was best for us, the company were unbelievable with that and thankfully, you know, everybody is in a great place right now.”

The next WWE PLE is called King and Queen of the Ring on May 25th, but McIntyre is not expected to be on the show. McIntyre is nursing an elbow injury and he should be ready to return to the ring soon. After that, it’s WWE Clash at the Castle on June 15th in Glasgow, Scotland, which is Drew’s home country. The Scotsman is expected to face Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Title at that show, but it’s not official yet.

Drew McIntyre tweeted the new poster for Clash at the Castle and wrote: “If McIntyre loses we riot.”
