August 15th - On This Day In Wrestling History

2004 – SummerSlam 2004 featured many classic matches, including Kane defeating Matt Hardy to win the right to marry Lita in a ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ match. More notably, however, it was at this event that Randy Orton defeated Chris Benoit to become the youngest World Champion in history at the age of just 24.

2010 – SummerSlam once again falls on August 15th in 2010, and the show was mostly focused on the ongoing feud with John Cena and the WWE locker room with invading ‘rookies’ from the first season of NXT. Led by Wade Barrett, the Nexus was defeated by Team Cena which featured the likes of Edge, Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, and a returning Daniel Bryan, among others. It also included Sheamus defending the WWE Championship against Randy Orton.
