TNA Impact March 6 Review

The Hardys faced The Colons in the main event of this week’s TNA Impact while Oba Femi and Moose had a confrontation.

The show opened with the regular recap of last week’s show which saw The System defeating Oba Femi and The Hardys, then Santino Marella made a big 10-man tag match for Sacrifice.

TNA Impact Live 6.3.25 from Full Sail University in Orlando, FL

We are straight into the first match of the night after a reminder that Nic Nemeth and Leon Slater have been added to the face team for the 10-man tag match at Sacrifice.

Match #1: Elijah vs Brian Myers w/ Alisha Edwards

This is Elijah’s first singles match on Impact. There’s a hint as to who might win. Elijah took Myers down with a clothesline early. He beat Myers up around the ringside area with chops, then tossed him into the steel ring post. Elijah bounced Myers’ face off the ring apron a number of times. He ran around the ring to build momentum and took Myers out with a hip attack on the apron, then followed up with a nearfall. He imitated the Undertaker with a top rope axe handle and then Alisha distracted Myers, allowing for a back suplex. Myers beat Elijah down with right hands. He choked him out against the middle rope and got another 2 count. Myers grounded Elijah with a sleeper attempt. Elijah popped up and hit a suplex. Myers ran into a big boot and a splash in the corner. Elijah nailed a twisting suplex for 2. Myers responded with a kick to the gut and the Implant DDT for 2. He lined Elijah up for the spear. Elijah caught him but Eddie Edwards ran down to distract him. Myers ran into Eddie with a clothesline. Elijah capitalised with the Highwayman’s Farewell (Tombstone) for the win after 6 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Elijah

Analysis: **1/2 That was a predictable outcome but an enjoyable opener, nonetheless. Myers is the go-to man for putting people over in TNA.

After the match, Eddie and JDC started the beat down on Elijah until Joe Hendry ran down with a guitar for the save.

Gia Miller was backstage with Ace Austin and The Rascalz. Tonight they face The Northern Armory, to see if they can successfully team up as a trio. Zac Wentz said it’s time for Wes Lee to get out of The Rascalz’ business.

First Class Penthouse Segment

AJ Francis was not impressed with my critique of the first episode of this segment a few weeks back. I hope tonight’s is better and if not, I will once again let him know! AJ and KC Navarro were out on the stage with two women. At least it’s an improvement on the dozen or so nobodies that they had last time. Francis said everyone was talking about the Penthouse. Yes, and it wasn’t positive. Francis feigned Kevin Owens being on the show. KC Navarro was selling his injuries from his match with Steve Maclin last week. Francis said he would make Maclin pay. Maclin’s music hit and he came and joined the party. He took KC’s microphone and told him to shut it. Maclin told AJ that they talk too much and don’t fight enough. AJ asked Maclin if he wanted to fight tonight and Maclin accepted.

Analysis: That’s exactly how the segment should go. Cocky heels being put in their place and setting up a match for later.

Match #2: Xia Brookside vs Savannah Evans

Evans missed a splash in the corner. Brookside tried some chops to no effect. Evans countered a bulldog attempt then avoided a sunset flip pin. Brookside hit a dropkick. Evans caught her in mid-air but couldn’t capitalise with a scoop slam. Brookside ran the ropes but Evans nailed a Samoan Drop for 2. Rosemary was creeping in the stands. Evans choked Xia out against the middle rope. She whipped her hard against the turnbuckle and got another 2 count. Evans tried to lock in a sleeper. Xia got to her feet but Evans locked her in a bear hug. Brookside broke free with some elbow shots. She blocked an attack in the corner with a boot. Brookside tried to knock Evans down with some clotheslines and then had a unique Octopus submission locked in temporarily. Evans was sent into the middle rope, face-first. Brookside hit a corner spear and went to the top rope for a crossbody for a 2 count. Evans snapped and picked up Brookside by the throat. She tossed her into the corner but missed a running splash. Brookside avoided a knee drop and the referee checked on her knee. Evans got up and flattened Brookside from behind with a vicious clothesline and that was enough for the win after 5 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Savannah Evans

Analysis: **1/4 That was okay but it wasn’t that captivating. It was a big clash of styles that would’ve worked a bit better had the commentators talked a bit more about why they were fighting.

They showed some footage of The Elegances serving Spitfire after losing their Tag Team Championship match last week. I was not entertained and there’s more to come next week.

Speaking of not being entertained, here come The Great Hands with their usual ‘trash the fans’ shtick. John Skyler said he was going to take out Mike Santana before Sacrifice. No you’re not, John. I don’t know why they don’t push Jason Hotch, who is so much better in the ring.

Match #3: John Skyler w/ Jason Hotch vs Mike Santana

Skyler jumped Santana as soon as he jumped in the ring. He whipped Santana hard into the opposite corner and hit a side Russian Legsweep for 2. Santana bounced off the ropes and hit a clothesline and then the Three Amigos, but Skyler avoided the final one. He tried a diving spear through the ropes but Santana caught him in mid-air with a kick. Santana hit a cannonball in the corner, then a sitout powerbomb to win the match after 90 seconds.

Winner by pinfall: Mike Santana

Analysis: SQUASH Nothing wrong with this. Santana looks strong heading into Sacrifice.

Hotch tried to attack Santana from behind after the match with a hammer, but Santana took him out with Spin the Block. Santana picked up the hammer but Mustafa Ali appeared on the screen. He called Santana unhinged. Tasha Steelz walked in with Ali’s coffee. Ali told Santana that he had been selected for a urine sample. Some guy brought a cup down for Santana to use later on.

Analysis: Ali continues to push the boundaries in this storyline. It adds a personal edge to it.

Match #4: AJ Francis w/ KC Navarro vs Steve Maclin

This feels like last week’s show that had lots of matches but not much wrestling time. Francis backed Maclin into the corner using his strength. Maclin hit some chops and an upper cut. He broke free of a power slam attempt and clubbed Francis in the back in the corner. Maclin couldn’t quite manage an Olympic Slam. Francis tossed him into the corner. Navarro distracted Maclin so Francis tossed Maclin right across the ring. He nailed a splash in the corner, then a hard whip into the opposite side of the ring. Francis measured Maclin for his knee strike in the corner. He missed a big boot in the corner so Maclin put him in the Tree of Woe for his corner spear. Francis broke free of a KIA and nailed a spear for 2. He set up for the Down Payment. Judas Icarus and Travis Williams ran down to the ring, presumably to distract Maclin. Francis was distracted so Maclin hit an Olympic Slam. Francis rolled to the outside so Maclin hit a spear through the ropes. Eric Young was on the ramp. He told Maclin that he was watching his back. Navarro got up on the ring apron so Maclin tried to fight him off. He turned around and Francis nailed him with a monstrous Down Payment for the win after 5 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: AJ Francis

Analysis: **1/2 That’s a big win for Francis, even though it was very cheap. Young still wants Maclin to join him but it backfired here.

Four of the members of the face team for Sacrifice were meeting in the locker room. Ryan Nemeth walked in and tried to be buddies with the wrestlers. Matt Hardy rang Nic Nemeth. Ryan must’ve told Nic that he was in the match. Matt said nobody likes Ryan. Nic said Ryan means well. Matt said this match at Sacrifice was career-ending. What is he talking about? Did they tape this before the cage match announcement later on? Ryan started to cry.

Analysis: That was really bad. Maybe it was intentional but it came off very cheap.

Steve Maclin was going berserk backstage after losing to AJ Francis. Eric Young said he was doing this for him. Maclin blew up. Young told him to open his eyes. Maclin said he didn’t trust Williams and Icarus. Frankie Kazarian was standing by and took some verbal cheap shots at Maclin. Maclin got in his face. That was it.

Analysis: What are they doing with Kaz, anyway?

They showed highlights of The Hardys and Moose on NXT this week.

Moose & Oba Femi Face-to-Face

Femi was out first. His whole presentation is so great. Moose vs Oba for the NXT title happens on Tuesday night at Roadblock. Moose came out next with his whole faction. There were a lot of security guards starting between both men. None of them looked overly tough. Femi took the microphone first and said he was happy that Moose kicked down the doors of NXT to come and challenge him. Femi wondered why now, though? Moose said he was a prize fighter, who always comes for the biggest match. He said he waited until Femi was champion, then he crossed the line. Femi wanted to see who the toughest Nigerian was. He said he would walk out of Roadblock as champion. Moose said he was used to being the face of this franchise, but come Tuesday he would be the face of Femi’s franchise. Femi told Moose to tell the security to leave so they could fight. JDC tried to bribe the security guards. They all tried to jump Oba but he broke free and tossed them all from the right. He hit a double clothesline on two of them. Femi took down Myers, Edwards and JDC. He powerbombed a security guard onto the rest of them on the outside. The numbers caught up with Femi back in the ring. Moose missed a pump kick and nailed JDC. Femi took down Myers and Edwards with a double clothesline. He turned around right into Moose’s spear. Moose held up both of the titles as his music played.

Analysis: That was a great segment. Femi is a star but Moose looked good in his element here in TNA. His spear is atrocious though. Do it like Bron Breakker, please.

Nathan Frazer and Axiom taped a promo to hype their TNA Tag Team Championship match with The Hardys at Roadblock. Frazer said it was time to take the torch from The Hardys and become the best team on the planet. Axiom said that they would be watching the main event closely.

Analysis: That will be a terrific match on Tuesday. It has a PPV-worthy lineup.

Match #5: The Northern Armory vs Ace Austin & The Rascalz

Wentz and Williams started the match. Miguel made a blind tag and Young blasted him from behind. Wentz tossed the legal man Icarus to the floor. The face team did a triple dive through the ropes on their opponents. There were some shenanigans on the outside still. Young blasted Wentz with a forearm on the apron. He tagged in and choked Wentz against the middle rope. Williams did some illegal stomps with the referee distracted. Young lined up Wentz for another big right hand. He tagged in Williams, who nailed a hard shot to the ribs and a snap suplex for 2. Williams tried another cover for a 2 count. He hit a back fist and sent Wentz into the ropes, but Wentz hit a springboard knee strike to get back on track. Young took Austin and Miguel off the ring apron, so that Wentz couldn’t tag them. Wentz turned around into a dropkick for another 2 count. He broke free of a submission but Williams hit a dropkick to the back. Icarus tagged in and scored another quick 2 count. He quickly tagged in Williams. Wentz avoided a corner clothesline, then swatted away Young and Icarus on the apron to make the diving tag to Austin. He nailed a Russian Legsweep and legdrop on Icarus. Williams ran in but he copped a big forearm. Austin fought them both off with a spin kick to Icarus. Young tagged himself in and hit a big running elbow strike on Austin. He hit a scoop slam but missed the moonsault. Young went for the tag but Wentz knocked Icarus and Williams off the apron. Miguel tagged in and hit a top-rope dropkick on Young. He nailed a hurricanrana then kicked Icarus off the apron. Miguel followed up with an enziguiri. He tagged in Wentz, who hit a double stomp to the back of Young for 2. They double-teamed Young with dropkicks. Miguel covered but Williams broke up the pin. Austin took care of Williams in the corner. He turned around and Young nailed him with the Death Valley Driver. Wentz hit a running neckbreaker on Young. He and Miguel went to the top rope. Wes Lee and his cronies walked down to ringside. Wentz did a big splash from the top rope onto Tyson and Tyriek. Wes Lee got up on the apron and distracted Miguel. Williams knocked him off the top rope. Wentz turned around and Young blasted him with the piledriver for the win after 10 minutes.

Winners by pinfall: The Northern Armory

Analysis: *** That was a solid tag match that had the predictable finish, with Wes Lee and friends costing the good guys the match. There was a lot of interference and double-team moves in this match, which I wasn’t a huge fan of. Young goes from trying to be a face in the previous segment with Maclin to doing all these heel moves in this match. It shows that he has a good range to his character and also he’s trying to get in Maclin’s head.

Mike Santana wasn’t impressed that he had to give his urine sample. Santino Marella said his hands were tied. Tasha Steelz was berating someone over getting Mustafa’s coffee order wrong. Santana took the coffee and we assume he used that in his urine sample. Lame.

They aired another video from Spitfire and The Elegances but it was for a workout this time. The face girls are really enjoying this. George Iceman, dressed as a janitor, attacked Dani Luna and Jody Threat. I think this feud is going to continue.

Masha Slamovich came down to the ring. She had an outfit that Seth Rollins would be impressed with. Slamovich wanted a microphone. She said that Cora Jade is stepping into a fight, not a match at Sacrifice. Masha told Jade that she wouldn’t be able to walk out of Sacrifice by herself. Cora Jade came out. She looked like she injured herself on this week’s NXT, but this TNA show was taped before that. Jade reminded everyone that she was going to make history at Sacrifice. Slamovich told Jade she was going to be exposed at Sacrifice, because she can’t hang with a real fighter. Tessa Blanchard blindsided Slamovich from behind. They double-teamed the champion but here comes Lei Ying Lee. Lee took care of Jade and Tessa.

Analysis: I think Masha needed that segment. She hasn’t had much to do lately, even though she’s in this feud with Cora. Since losing her accent, she has lost a bit of her intimidation factor. That’s an easy way to set up a tag team match for next week, too. It’s obviously leading to Tessa vs Masha at Rebellion. Good!

Mustafa Ali was given his preferred coffee by Tasha Steelz. She told Ali that Santana passed the drug test. Ali sipped his coffee. It had been obviously swapped with Santana’s sample. Ali went to throw up.

Analysis: The comedy segments have not hit the mark tonight.

Ryan Nemeth came out to bleed our ears dry with a reminder that Nic will return at Sacrifice. Fast forward.

Match #6: Non-Title Match: The Hardys vs The Colons

Matt and Orlando began the match. Matt focused on the left shoulder and tagged Jeff in. The Hardys have been everywhere lately. They love the dollars! Eddie ran in but he ate a double hip toss.

(Commercial break)

Matt was in control with his Delete head smashes in the corner on Eddie. He charged into the corner but Orlando pulled Eddie out of the way. Eddie took advantage with stomps. He tagged in Orlando, who hit a nice dropkick for a 2 count. Orlando hammered Matt with right hands. He tossed Matt in the corner and tagged in Eddie. Eddie choked Matt out in the corner and hit a leg sweep for 2. Matt broke free of an arm-submission. He avoided a splash in the corner. Eddie was hung up in the Tree of Woe but Orlando freed him. Matt made the tag to Jeff. Jeff took down Eddie with a dropkick but Orlando broke up the pin. Matt hit a Side Effect on him. They nailed the Plot Twist on Eddie. Jeff wanted the Swanton but here comes The System for the DQ interference. The match lasted 4 ½ minutes.

Winners by disqualification: The Hardys

Analysis: *3/4 Well, at least they didn’t have The Colons lose another match. Another week of Impact goes by with poor match timing and a very short main event.

Joe Hendry, Elijah and Leon Slater ran down to make the save. Santino Marella made his way out to announce that the 10-man tag team match at Sacrifice would now take place inside a steel cage! He said he had to restore order to TNA.

Analysis: Wow. That’s TNA’s first steel cage match since 2019. It’s fitting that The System are in it, but it’s not all of their toughest foes from the last few years as some are still in other feuds. I can see Nic Nemeth going full heel that night after the match and beating Hendry senseless inside the steel cage. That’s how I’d book it.

Final Rating: 5.25/10

I felt that this was the third straight weak show TNA has put on. My scores are getting progressively lower and they’ve been devoid of captivating wrestling matches for a number of weeks. This week had even less wrestling time (32 minutes) than last week’s total of 37 minutes. There were some decent non-wrestling segments this week, which were easily the highlight of the show. I really enjoyed the face-off between Oba Femi and Moose. That rivalry is really working and being carried on two shows. The stuff between Steve Maclin and Eric Young is working and at least gives them something to do. I enjoyed Masha Slamovich being given some (brief) microphone time, as I have felt that lately she’s just kind of there and Cora Jade has carried that feud. It’s clear that it’s leading to Masha vs Tessa, which I am all for. The First Class promo segment wasn’t a bomb this week, so that’s a plus. I wonder if I should tweet AJ congratulating him for not stinking up the stage this week. The best match was the 6-man tag, but at only 3 stars then I am going to guess that it’s one of my lowest-ever highest-ranked matches for a TNA weekly show.

The next TNA monthly special is Sacrifice on March 14th from El Paso, Texas.
