AEW Collision Results – September 16, 2023

This week on AEW Collision, Kris Statlander defended the TBS Title against Britt Baker while FTR were in tag team action as well.

Our normal AEW Collision reviewer is Gino Lewis, but he’s unable to do a review this week. Instead, we’ll just post the results of the matches on the show and other key happenings well. Gino should be back next week to review the September 23rd episode of Collision.

This episode of AEW Collision took place at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, PA aka Penn State University. The commentary team was Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness.

Match #1: Ricky Starks & Big Bill defeated Blackpool Combat Club’s Bryan Danielson & Claudio Castagnoli. – Starks hit Danielson with a low blow when the referee wasn’t looking and Starks hit a Roshambo slam on Danielson for the pinfall win.

Match #2: FTR – Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler defeated The Iron Savages (Bronson & Boulder) to retain the AEW Tag Team Championships. FTR won with the Powerplex combo.

After the match, The Work Horsemen (JD Drake & Anthony Henry) went into the ring and shook hands with FTR. That led to a match challenge, which was accepted later in the show.

Keith Lee was about to be interviewed when Shane Taylor interrupted with Lee Moriarty. It led to a match challenge which Lee accepted.

Match #3: John Silver defeated Anthony Bowens – The Acclaimed and Dark Order were banned from ringside. Evil Uno was hiding under the ring and threw Bowens into the ring post when the referee wasn’t looking. Silver hit a running knee on Bowens for the pinfall win.

Eddie Kingston did a taped promo about how he was friends with Claudio Castagnoli early in their careers, but they have had problems for many years. Kingston said win or lose, this is it. Kingston said New York has his back and he dared Claudio to try to beat him there.

Orange Cassidy & Hook agreed to be a tag team at AEW’s upcoming Grand Slam shows.

Match #4: Aussie Open – Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis defeated Pretty Boy Smooth & Wes Barkley by pinfall. It was a short match that was done in under one minute.

After the match, Aussie Open challenged FTR to a AEW Tag Team Title match at WrestleDream on October 1. It’s official.

Toni Storm was featured in a “Portrait of a Star” video. She said she hasn’t changed.

Match #5: Andrade El Idolo defeated Scorpio Sky by submission with a Figure Eight submission.

After the match, Jay White did a promo and that set up a match with Andrade.

Match #6: The Righteous – Dutch & Vincent defeated The Hardys – Matt & Jeff Hardy. Vincent pinned Jeff with a move called Autumn Sunshine.

The Righteous did a post match promo introducing themselves. They wanted a shot at the ROH Tag Team Champions – MJF & Adam Cole.

It was announced that Rob Van Dam will be in a match next week on Collision.

Ricky Starks & Big Bill were interviewed with Ricky saying this: “Bryan Danielson, next week on Collision it’s you and me in a Texas Death Match! I’m going to put a whole end to this fiasco that’s known as Bryan Danielson.” That match is official.

Match #7:Kris Statlander defeated Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. by pinfall to retain the TBS Championship. Baker went for the Lockjaw submission, but Statlander countered it into a pinning move for the win. The crowd was behind Baker since she went to Penn State. They showed Julia Hart watching from a distance.

Kris Statlander and Britt Baker shook hands after the match. That was the end of the show.
