Ex-WWE Writer Vince Russo Details Scrapped Controversial “ICE” Storyline

Vince Russo

Vince Russo recently revealed that he once came close to booking a controversial “ICE” storyline.

Speaking on the February 21, 2026, episode of the Two Man Power Trip podcast, Russo, who previously served as WWE’s head writer from early 1997 to October 1999, explained that he was looking to create something different and edgy for JCW.

According to Vince Russo, the proposed angle involved a Mexican wrestler named Mecha Wolf being attacked by a mysterious figure wearing ice-themed gear. The attacker would later be revealed as Glacier, with the storyline built around a pun tied to his name.

Vince Russo Didn’t Want To Get “Buried”

However, before officially approving the angle, Vince Russo reconsidered. While he felt the idea was creative and interesting, he ultimately decided it would likely provoke major backlash from fans. As a result, Russo chose to scrap the storyline.

Russo said:

“Can I tell you something I wanted to do with JCW? We’ve got a really good wrestler there who wrestles a lot in Mexico — his name is Mecha Wolf. So, bro, I wanted to do an angle where he’s wrestling and somebody comes out in full riot gear with ‘ICE’ on the back and is trying to grab Mecha Wolf.”

“And you know how it would go — ‘Oh, Vince Russo is going to get buried. How could he do this? This, that, the other thing.’”

“Then when ‘ICE’ gets revealed, I wanted it to be Glacier. Would that not have stuck it to everybody? They’d be ripping me to shreds, and then it turns out he’s ‘ICE’ because he’s Glacier.”

“But the problem is, it would never be able to go that far without people being up in arms. You’d have to build it for a couple of weeks before doing the reveal. After the first week, people would already be going nuts.”

“I just thought it would’ve been hysterical — everybody getting offended, and then ‘ICE’ winds up being Glacier. I thought that would be great.”
