WWE Legend Comes To Goldberg’s Defense After Controversial Statement
Goldberg landed himself in hot water after publicly admonishing WWE.
While the fans did not call him out for his dig at the Stamford promotion, it was his reference, “some girl,’ at an established superstar that got the fans talking.
The WWE superstar in question was Asuka, who is a five-time women’s singles champion and a four-time tag team champion.
While discussing the Monday Night Wars, Goldberg criticized the Stamford promotion for allowing Asuka to surpass his 173-match undefeated streak, which came to around 1 year and 3 months.
The Empress of Tomorrow’s undefeated streak lasted 914 days, which was around two and a half years.
Asuka herself released an official statement, claiming that she remains unbothered by the 58-year-old’s comments and that she was proud of her accomplishments.
Elsewhere, on the October 27 taping of RAW, the company aired a tribute video for Asuka, celebrating her 10-year anniversary.
Bubba Ray Dudley Defends Goldberg’s Criticism Of WWE
WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley recently discussed Goldberg’s criticism of the promotion and Asuka’s reference during an appearance on the Busted Open Podcast.
He sympathised with his fellow Hall of Famer and understood where his comments stemmed from, as both wrestlers were not naturally bred in Stamford-based company, but rather came from rival promotions.
I hear a guy talking about his streak and talking about the Spear and he’s taking it a little more seriously than some wrestlers do…Bill takes it more seriously. Bill comes from the very real world of sports and football. Wasn’t broken into this business and taught and brainwashed a certain way. So I don’t disparage Bill for having his take on how he feels about it or how he looks at it.
Came from WCW, yeah all that stuff is true. You weren’t created in the WWE test tube. Neither was I, so I get it. Whoever was created there is always going to get more than you. Other than not knowing Asuka’s name or mispronouncing Asuka’s name, I don’t hear anything wrong.
