WWE Were Interested In Re-Signing Saraya Prior To AEW Debut

It has been reported that, prior to making her shock AEW debut, WWE were interested in bringing Saraya back to the company.

On September 21st at the Dynamite Grand Slam special, Saraya – formerly known as Paige in WWE – made her AEW debut to a huge ovation from the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd.

WWE had previously allowed the multi-time champion’s contract to expire on July 7th and she had been largely inactive since then. Saraya hasn’t wrestled since December 2017 when she suffered a serious neck injury during a match at a live event. This injury led to her retirement from the ring soon after.

Shortly before Grand Slam, Fightful Select broke the news that AEW had held conversations with Saraya during the summer. Fightful was also told by a source that they believed WWE held an interest in re-signing her following the recent change in management at the company.

During Grand Slam, Toni Storm overcame Britt Baker, Serena Deeb, and Athena to retain the Interim AEW Women’s World Championship.

Following the bout, Jamie Hayter joined Baker and Serena Deeb in attacking Athena and Storm. It was then that Saraya’s music hit, causing everyone in the ring to scatter.

While she didn’t get involved physically, the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion declared that AEW is now “her house” as she stood tall in the middle of the ring.
