Shawn Michaels Comments On William Regal’s WWE Return

Shawn Michaels is being optimistic over William Regal’s now-confirmed WWE return.

Earlier on Wednesday, AEW owner Tony Khan confirmed that he will be releasing Regal from his AEW contract. Though it hasn’t been 100% confirmed, most fans speculate that Regal will return to WWE. But in what capacity remains to be seen.

Before leaving WWE for AEW, William Regal was NXT’s General Manager and served as an on-screen authority figure and match-maker. Since his departure, NXT has gone through a few changes and Shawn Michaels is now the public face and voice of that brand.

This very question came up earlier today on NXT Deadline’s Media Call and Michaels shared his thoughts on William/Steven Regal returning to NXT:

“Right now, there is nothing official that I really have to announce. I will say this, we love Steve. We have a great deal of respect for Steven Regal and what he means to NXT and the WWE and wrestling at all levels. Nothing would thrill me more than to give you more information. Obviously, stay tuned because hopefully we’ll all know a little bit more as we get down the road. Honestly, right now, I’m the guy that has been reading it from you guys. That’s where we’re at for the time being.”

William Regal’s release doesn’t come into effect until January and his formal regarding his new WWE contract (and whatever responsibilities come with it) hasn’t been confirmed. Stay tuned for more updates.
