Seth Rollins Admits Major Storyline In His Career Was “Painful”

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins didn’t like how one of the biggest storylines of his WWE career was booked.

When Seth Rollins debuted on the WWE main roster at Survivor Series 2012, he was part of the 3-man group with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, known as The Shield.

For the next 18 months or so, The Shield was a united trio that didn’t appear to have any problems getting along, as they beat some of the biggest names in the company. Ambrose (now Jon Moxley in AEW) was a former US Champion, while Rollins and Reigns were Tag Team Champions together.

In June 2014, The Shield disbanded when Rollins turned heel by joining Triple H and Randy Orton, famously hitting Reigns and Ambrose with chair shots to the back. Less than a year later, Rollins was WWE Champion for the first time, before Ambrose or Reigns ever won it.

During his recent interview with Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe on “Club Shay Shay,” Rollins admitted that WWE ending The Shield when they did was tough for the group.

“That was painful. We go to WrestleMania, we’re full good guys at that point. We do two six-man tags with Evolution right after that. Like, we’re awesome. We’re on cloud nine … we show up to ‘Raw’ the day after and they knew that if they gave us heads up, we would say no and we would find a way to try to fight out of the breakup.

So, they brought us into the office … they’re like, ‘This is what we’re going to do, and Seth is going to be the one to pull the trigger.’ And I remember in the room, just the silence. And when we walked out of the room, it was like, ‘What do we do?’ Can we stop this? Like, are we doing the right thing? And there was a lot of tension there.” (h/T Wrestlinginc)

At the time, WWE was in need of main event performers because Daniel Bryan was out of action due to injury and CM Punk had quit in January 2014, which led to The Shield trio officially splitting up.

Over the next seven years, there were several Shield reunions, but the group was never as united as it had been before Rollins turned on them in June 2014.

Seth Rollins Still Has Issues With CM Punk

The former 6-time WWE World Champion, Seth Rollins, has been out of action since October after injuring his left shoulder and undergoing surgery to repair it shortly after. WWE is optimistic that Rollins could be ready for WrestleMania 42 in April, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

In the same interview with Club Shay Shay, Rollins spoke about his longtime rivalry with CM Punk and suggested the two legendary wrestlers could mend fences down the road.

“Maybe, once we’re both away from the business or retired, there might be an opportunity for a reconciliation there. It’s just so hard for me to separate the CM Punk that there is now from the CM Punk that was a really rotten friend to me ten years ago.

Those wounds take time to heal. Whether or not he cares to make the effort to do that, and I care to care if he makes the effort to do that, I don’t know. Neither of us have the time for it at the moment.”

Seth Rollins also thinks highly of his wife, Becky Lynch, and himself as a WWE power couple, especially compared to the likes of Triple H-Stephanie McMahon, Edge-Beth Phoenix, and others.
