Jim Cornette On How The Rock Vs Roman Reigns Could Play Out

Roman Reigns The Rock

Despite both not spending 100% of their time in active competition for WWE, Jim Cornette has explained how a match between The Rock and Roman Reigns could work really well.

With Roman Reigns wrestling a limited schedule and The Rock not being in active competition, some have questioned how well a match between the pair would be received. However, there has been plenty of speculation that it could be the big box office main event for WrestleMania 38 next year.

Jim Cornette has come to the defense of both men, and explained why a match between the two megastars would be different to if two other part-time wrestlers stepped in to the ring.

In a discussion on his Jim Cornette Experience podcast, the legendary wrestling booker and manager gave an explanation of how they could add intrigue to the contest by making it non-title, then still swerve the fans with the result.

You see this is a different case. The Rock, obviously he doesn’t need to be anymore over, and obviously he doesn’t need to have another match. And obviously, if he does have another match, it’s because he wants to and the one he specifically wants to have, and that’s with Roman Reigns. And because even though Reigns is now kind of a part time guy, you could still make Roman Reigns even bigger if he beat The Rock. And because it’s a family connection, I think that’s what they would probably do.

So that could be a mega drawing match. And again, even if people wanted to see The Rock win they would understand that he didn’t because also, and maybe it’s not even for the f*cking title. Maybe it’s a personal issue where they swerve the people, it’s non-title that way they think Rock will win but he still puts Roman over that could happen. But Rock says I don’t want the title, I can’t have the championship. I’m a movie star but this one thing to settle who is the head of the table?

The Rock’s last high-profile match came back at WrestleMania 29 back in 2013, when he took on John Cena in the main event. In contrast Roman Reigns is a regular fixture on WWE television, however his matches are far more limited than the appearances. His next match will come in the signature five-on-five tag team match at Survivor Series: WarGames this weekend.
