The dominant Intercontinental Title reign of GUNTHER continues as he hits another milestone.

We are living in a WWE era where some of the talent are having legendary title reigns. The Usos were the longest reigning tag team champions ever before losing them at WrestleMania, Bianca Belair held the Raw Women’s Title for over 400 days and we know all about Roman Reigns holding the Undisputed WWE Universal Title for over 1000 days as he nears three years as the champion.

In the 44-year history of the WWE Intercontinental Title, there are only four title reigns that have lasted 400 days or more.

There’s the Honky Tonk Man at 454 days, Pedro Morales at 424 days, “Macho Man” Randy Savage at 414 days and now GUNTHER joins that elite group because his IC TItle reign has reached 400 days.

For GUNTHER to set the record as the longest Intercontinental Champion, he has to hold the title until September 8th.

It was the June 10th, 2022 edition of WWE Smackdown at the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana when GUNTHER defeated Ricochet to become the Intercontinental Champion. Since then, GUNTHER has beaten everybody put in front of him and took the Intercontinental Title to Raw, which is where he was drafted two months ago.

In recent months, GUNTHER has successfully defended the Intercontinental Title against Matt Riddle and Mustafa Ali.

At WrestleMania 39, the talented Austrian had one of the best matches of the year when he defeated Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in one of the greatest Intercontinental Title matches of all time.

Speaking of Drew McIntyre, he returned at Money in the Bank two weeks ago to lay out the Intercontinental Champion after the title defense against Riddle. This past Monday on Raw, McIntyre hit a Powerbomb just like GUNTHER does, which McIntyre tweeted about as well.

It is expected that GUNTHER will defend the Intercontinental Title against Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam in three weeks on August 5th. If the champion gets by the challenger then he would be one more month away from setting the record.
