Former WWE Champion Has Foot Amputated
An unfortunate update has surfaced regarding a former WWE champion.
Marty Jannetty, who is a former Intercontinental Champion and a Tag Team Champion, recently had his foot amputated.
The revelation came from Jannetty’s long-time friend Eddy Mansfield, who spoke on the Monte & The Pharaoh podcast while sharing a photo of the ex-champion in a wheelchair.
One of my dearest friends ever on the face of this earth, and was a great wrestler, had his foot amputated, his name is the Rocker Marty Jannetty.
Jannetty is famous for his first stint in the Stamford promotion during the late 80s when he teamed up with Shawn Michaels as part of The Rockers duo.
Both Jannetty and Michaels had feuds against other popular teams, such as Demolition and The Hart Foundation. Despite their immense popularity, The Rockers never won the Tag Team Championship.
In fact, Jannetty’s tag title win came during his second stint with WWE, where he teamed up with 1-2-3 Kid between 1993 and 1994.
Marty Jannetty’s Friend Goes Off On WWE & Shawn Michaels
Eddy Mansfield, who has been Marty Jannetty’s friend for more than four decades, called the news of his foot amputation ‘devastating,’ but explained that they had a normal exchange on the same day..
Me and him always make each other laugh. Marty Jannetty is one of the greatest guys you’ll ever have the pleasure to meet, folks.
Mansfield then went on to criticize WWE for Jannetty’s declining health, claiming that he paid the price for his in-ring injuries with his foot.
His ankles were screwed up in a WWE wrestling ring, and making them a lot of money, him and Shawn Michaels. When I can remember Marty, when he couldn’t hardly walk, his ankles bothered him so bad, he was in so much pain, and the pain pills really didn’t do anything to him or for him.
He then called out the wrestling promotion for its lack of help towards one of its own. Mansfield also accused Shawn Michaels of leaving Marty Jannetty hanging while he stayed employed in different roles with the company.
Where in the hell was WWE to help Marty Jannetty? Hell, he made them millions of dollars, and you can’t help him when he is in the biggest need of his life, fighting for his life. These guys at WWE can get all these pay raises, but you can’t take care of the guys who make you the money.
Shawn left him kind of hanging. Instead of okay, you got the big break, why didn’t you make sure your partner still worked all the time with good angles? If you made it together and you go separate ways, don’t hurt your partner, help your partner. Make sure he eats well.
Mansfield also advocated for Jannetty to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and stated that Shawn Michaels should be the one to induct him.
He should be in the Hall of Fame absolutely without a shadow of a doubt, and Shawn Michaels should be the guy introducing him. How come he hadn’t done that? He was one of the best baby faces in this business ever.
