Forbidden Door Opened For AEW Owen Hart Cup

The Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments are returning imminently to AEW and with big stakes at play, the forbidden door has been opened for entrants.

In September 2021, AEW announced the launch of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, also known as the Owen Hart Cup. The tournament features men’s and women’s brackets, and the first winners were crowned at Double or Nothing in 2022.

On the pre-show for Double Or Nothing 2024, Tony Khan appeared with Dr Martha Hart to reveal that this year, and for the first time ever, the male and female winners of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments will receive AEW World Title shots at AEW All In on August 25th in Wembley Stadium.

Bryan Danielson was the first star to announce his entry into the men’s tournament as he looks to win AEW’s biggest prize during his last full-time year as a member of the roster. And now on Dynamite, more male stars have entered the fray.

NJPW Star Enters AEW Owen Hart Cup

On Dynamite in Des Moines, Iowa, two backstage promos aired where PAC and New Japan Pro Wrestling Star Shingo Takagi both announced their entry into the Owen Hart Cup.

PAC was in action on AEW Rampage taped after Dynamite ended while the last time AEW fans saw NEVER Openweight Champion Shingo Takagi in action was back at 2023’s Forbidden Door when he teamed up with his Los Ingobernables de Japon teammates to defeat United Empire.

The women’s tournament has also seen three stars declare their entry as Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander, and Mariah May will all take part.
