CM Punk Revealed As The Mastermind Behind Iconic WWE Name

CM Punk was the mastermind behind a WWE name.

Layla wrestled for the WWE from 2006 to 2015. During this time, she was a regular feature on TV. However, she was best known for her pairing with Michelle McCool. Together, they were called LayCool, which is a combination of both of their names.

Layla joined the WWE roster after winning Diva Search in 2006. She then experienced a lot of success in the sports entertainment juggernaut. Her most memorable work in the company was as part of LayCool with Michelle McCool. The two of them even held the Divas Championship at the same time. She is also a former Women’s Champion. After her WWE departure in 2015, Layla has not stepped back into the ring.

Layla revealed that CM Punk was behind the LayCool name

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Layla spoke about how the Lay-Cool name came to be. She recalled somebody telling her that she and Michelle McCool needed a tag team name. They ran into CM Punk in the arena while they were trying to think of a name. The Straight Edge Superstar then suggested they use the name LayCool, and they went with it.

“Yeah, he did. He wasn’t even part of the conversation. That’s what’s so funny about it. Because Johnny or somebody, I can’t remember, was like, ‘Guys, you need a name? You’ve been together too long now, it’s getting ridiculous. You need a name.’ Punk was hanging out at the arena, and he just was like, ‘What are you guys doing?’ We had a piece of paper, and we were trying to write something. We’re like, we’re trying to think of a name. And then we were Cool-Lay, it was so stupid. And then he’s like, ‘LayCool?’ Then we’re like, yeah, that’s it. Punk just happened to be there. LayCool turned out to be a good name for Michelle McCool and Layla, and even catapulted them to new heights as a tag team. It was a good thing that CM Punk was just wandering the hallways at the arena at that moment. It would’ve been interesting to see LayCool reunite one more time in the sports entertainment juggernaut.
