CM Punk Named Best Wrestler In The World By WWE Hall Of Famer
The performances of CM Punk have impressed a WWE Hall of Famer, who believes Punk truly is the best in the world.
CM Punk failed to win the WWE Championship from John Cena at Night of Champions, but Punk has bounced back just fine. Punk earned himself a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship held by Gunther at SummerSlam on Saturday, August 2nd.
That match between Gunther and Punk won’t just be any match on SummerSlam, but it will be the main event of the first night of the summer showcase at MetLife Stadium. According to Punk in a recent interview, he plans to “steal the whole weekend” in his match with Gunther.
“Me main eventing, I think it’s important. It’s important for the title. I think it’s important for Gunther. I’m looking forward to not only main eventing SummerSlam but stealing the whole weekend.
This dude is the best wrestler in the world. He’s got the gold to prove it, too.
He’s a guy who represents the business to me… You could take him and you could drop him into a territory in the 60s and he would thrive… He transcends decades to me. He’s one of the best right now.”
WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart Believes In CM Punk
Any wrestling fan who has watched CM Punk during his 20+ year career as a pro wrestler knows that two-time WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart is one of his favorite wrestlers ever, along with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Punk has worn pink in matches in the past to honor the Hitman while also using moves that the Hitman made famous.
It appears as though the respect is mutual because Bret Hart was asked, “Who do you think is the best wrestler today?” The Hitman told Complex Sports that CM Punk would be his choice.
“There’s a lot of really good wrestlers. I’m a forever Rey Mysterio fan, you know, like I always—I love watching Rey, even now today, especially as he gets older. But I’m also a big fan of Roman Reigns. I think if I had to answer the question, I’d say CM Punk.”
When asked if Punk would beat Gunther at SummerSlam, Bret was backing Punk: “Oh yeah, I think so.”
