This former WWE creative team member says Chris Jericho won’t wrestle if he returns to WWE.

Chris Jericho’s possible return to the Stamford-based promotion has been much anticipated. With each interview and each post for the former WWE and AEW star, garnering momentum for his return to home base.

The 55-year-old is close to the end of his career, and going on to retire in the promotion that made him will bring his career full circle.

Jericho has a knack for reinventing himself and his wrestling personas with the changing times. Every character he has played, like Y2J, The Painmaker, and Le Champion, has been rich in substance and connected organically with fans.

His cockiness, sarcasm, and psychological mind games make the veteran star a fit for any era that requires a solid, believable, but lovable heel. Charisma, combined with great in-ring athleticism, has fans frothing at the mouth to see him in action again.

However, some critics feel that even if he does return to WWE, he won’t be wrestling matches.

Vince Russo Says Chris Jericho Can’t Wrestle Anymore

Speaking on the Coach and Bro podcast, Johnathan Coachman tells Russo that if it were the NFL that had to think about playing a 55-year-old player, it would simply be impossible and not even be a matter of discussion. He goes on to mention that with wrestling’s physicality, it wouldn’t be a good idea to pit Jericho up to wrestle against younger current stars.

Vince Russo agrees with this point and punctuates it saying that he doesn’t think Jericho will be brought in to wrestle at all.

He can’t come in and wrestle at all.

He doesn’t need to . We’re talkin about Chris Jericho here, he does not need to wrestle. You just need to get him in the right role and give him good creative, that’ all he needs. (14:46 onwards)

Chris Jericho was last seen on AEW TV as the leader of the faction The Learning Tree before disbanding it and leaving in April 2025 after smashing a few pieces of equipment.
