AEW Champion To Retire Title

AEW

AEW could be about to lose a championship.

Officially AEW is home to seven championships but has seen titles from Ring of Honor, AAA, NJPW, and even IMPACT Wrestling defended on shows in the past. CM Punk is currently touting himself as the “Real World Champion” carrying around his own title belt emblazoned with an ‘X’ due to the fact he never lost the title and was stripped of it following All Out 2022.

In addition, AEW has been home to the FTW Championship which is not sanctioned by the company. Taz created the title back in his ECW days and reintroduced the belt to AEW when he formed Team Taz with Brian Cage. Ricky Starks won the belt when Cage was kicked out of the group and Taz’s son HOOK then captured the title from Starks. However, disaster struck on the 19th of July edition of Dynamite when Jack Perry defeated HOOK for the gold.

Perry disparaged its legacy and ECW which led to a title match between himself and Rob Van Dam but the WWE Hall of Famer could not defeat the AEW star. Now in a video that aired on Dynamite in Nashville, Jack Perry has vowed to retire the title next week. Whether he is able to go through with his plan or is stopped remains to be seen.

What else happened on AEW Dynamite?

Dynamite saw the company very much on the road to All In with more competitors and matches set for the event in Wembley Stadium. Dr. Britt Baker DMD booked her place in the AEW Women’s Title match at the event when she defeated The Bunny.

Will Ospreay returned to the company in Nashville and has himself one of the biggest challenges of his career in his home country when he faces off with Chris Jericho. Incredibly, a horror movie icon also made their presence felt on the show.
