When Triple H showed up ringside after Gunther forced John Cena to tap out in his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, the boos rained down hard on him from the Capital One Arena crowd.

HHH dodged the heat like a pro, smiling through it all, but wrestling vet Stevie Richards went on his podcast the next day, saying Hunter’s got that classic Mr. McMahon vibe brewing, i.e., the smug boss fans love to hate.

Now there’s real chatter online that he might resurrect The Authority to lean into the backlash. For those who need a refresher, The Authority was WWE’s ultimate heel powerhouse from 2013 to around 2016.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon ran it as corrupt higher-ups, handpicking champs like Seth Rollins and Randy Orton while burying anyone who rebelled. They controlled titles, booked matches unfairly, and had goons like Big Show and Kane doing their bidding.

If Triple H goes full villain and reforms something like it, here are three stars whom he could recruit for his heel faction.

#1 Gunther

Gunther feels like the perfect monster at the top. Hunter already chose him to end Cena’s career, eating all the boos without flinching, so Gunther as the enforcer in the faction makes total sense.

He could charge, chopping rebels into oblivion while Hunter nods approval from the ramp. His 2025 dominance, including retiring Goldberg back on July 12, proves he’s built for that role.

#2 Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre slots in as the brutal hammer every Authority needs. He’s been one of WWE’s sharpest heels this year, cutting bitter promos about being overlooked and wrecking anyone in his path.

Drew could be the guy Hunter calls to smash babyfaces who complain, like laying out fan favorites on the shows. His standard schtick fits right into the corporate machine narrative.

#3 Randy Orton

Randy Orton has a history with Triple H. He was a core Authority member back in the day, thriving as their Viper assassin. Right now, Randy’s floating without momentum in late 2025, and fans are begging for his heel turn.

Bringing him back into the fold would revive that dangerous edge, stalking enemies and RKO-ing them out of nowhere on Hunter’s orders, bringing back his character to a full circle moment.
