Update On WWE Plans For Women’s Tag Team Titles At WrestleMania 39

The Women’s Tag Team Titles will be on the line at WWE WrestleMania 39 even though the current champions are already in another non-title match.

A big six-woman tag team match was set up on the March 6th edition of WWE Raw. It happened due to what took place one week earlier when Becky Lynch & Lita beat Damage CTRL’s Dakota Kai & IYO SKY to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles thanks to Trish Stratus showing up at ringside to prevent Bayley from helping Damage CTRL during the match.

All of that led to the trio of Lynch, Lita & Stratus challenging the Damage CTRL trio of Bayley, Kai & Sky to a WrestleMania 39 match and now that match is official.

Since the Women’s Tag Team Titles are now part of a six-woman tag team match, it led to some people wondering what that meant for the titles. It appears as though WWE still has plans for the Women’s Tag Team Titles to be defended at WrestleMania 39 on April 1st or 2nd.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that the six-woman tag team match being announced doesn’t change plans for the Women’s Tag Team Titles.

“This (six-woman tag) does not preclude Shayna Baszler & Ronda Rousey challenging for the women’s tag team title. As of right now, both matches are scheduled and the women’s tag team champions, whoever they end up being (it was Sky & Kai originally) will work both nights.”

“If Rousey isn’t able to wrestle by that weekend, obviously that tag title match won’t be taking place. But as of midweek, the belief was she would be wrestling on the show. Rousey has a legit injury, believed to be a hairline fracture. She aggravated the injury recently in training enough to where they are pulling her from action for a little while but she’s still planning on wrestling in the tag title match at WrestleMania.”

As always, until it’s official on WWE TV, it’s just a rumor and things during WrestleMania season can always change at any time.
