WWE Hall Of Famer Had Heat For Finish To A Match Involving The Undertaker

The Undertaker WWE

A WWE Hall of Famer has recalled receiving backstage heat for suggesting the finish to a match featuring The Undertaker in 2002.

At No Mercy 2002, Taker challenged Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship in a Hell in a Cell match.

Going into the match, Lesnar was the youngest world champion at the time, whereas The Undertaker, who had transitioned to the American Badass persona, had already cemented his legacy.

The match kicked off slowly, but picked up momentum with both superstars exchanging offensive moves.

In the final minutes, Taker delivered the Last Ride and pinned Lesnar, but the champion grabbed the bottom rope. Taker then went for the Tombstone Piledriver, but Lesnar reversed it and hit an F5 for the victory.

After the bout, Brock Lesnar climbed the cage and celebrated by holding the title aloft and looking at The Undertaker laid out in the ring.

Bubba Ray Dudley Got Heat For WWE No Mercy Finish

Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley joined WWE in 1999 after leaving ECW.

Throughout the next couple of years, they competed in high-stakes matches, even making it to multiple WrestleMania cards.

Speaking on D-Von Dudley’s YouTube channel, Bubba Ray recounted providing the finish for the Hell in a Cell Match between The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar, but receiving heat afterward.

Brock tells me, ‘We have nothing for the finish.’ Even Taker. Nobody had anything. And he’s like, ‘You got anything?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’ve got something.’ I said, ‘It’s only been done once, and it’s been done by me, but it hasn’t been seen on the world stage of the WWE.

And I laid out the idea to them. And Brock gets up and he walks away. I go, ‘Where you going?’ He goes, ‘I’m going to Vince.’ Half hour later, I see Brock, ‘Thanks Bubba, that’s what we’re doing tonight.

I’m happy that they liked my idea. Brock spoke to Taker, he liked the idea. They’re gonna run with it. They executed it, it worked great

Before the pay-per-view had started, Vince walks by me, we just happened to be in the same place at the same time, he stops, looks at me, shakes my hand, and he goes, ‘Thank you very much for that finish.’ ‘No problem boss, you got it.

I got credit for it. And I got heat for it. Massive f**king heat for it. Why? I don’t know. But none of the top dog producers in the company came up with that idea for those two main eventers.

I can’t understand why I would get heat for just coming up with a good idea when one of the guys in the match asked me for it, and oh, by the way, The Undertaker liked it also. Now you’re all mad at me because I came up with a good idea? [H/T: WrestleTalk]
