WWE Didn’t Trust Jinder Mahal For Raw Title Match Says Dave Meltzer
Jinder Mahal got his controversial World Heavyweight Championship shot on Raw but it seems WWE didn’t really trust him in a big main event.
Eyebrows were raised when Jinder Mahal received a World Heavyweight Championship shot against Seth Rollins in WWE despite not having won a match on the main roster in well over a year.
Jinder Mahal became the talk of the wrestling world when AEW boss Tony Khan had an outburst on social media calling into question double standards after he’d received criticism of HOOK getting an AEW World Title shot against Samoa Joe despite having a 28-1 record. However, one WWE Hall of Famer has questioned how many of HOOK’s wins are memorable.
On Raw in Little Rock, Arkansas, Jinder Mahal got his title match but failed to dethrone the champion despite Seth Rollins suffering a legitimate injury during the bout. The match was watched closely by Señor Money In The Bank Damian Priest and he ended up brawling at ringside with Drew McIntyre. Mahal also had help from Indus Sher but ultimately it came to nothing.
Jinder Mahal Not Trusted By WWE
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that he believes WWE didn’t trust Jinder Mahal to have a proper World Heavyweight Championship match as his bout was blighted with interference and other angles:
I tell you what, with all the talk they had about that, they sure did not trust [Mahal] to do a wrestling match. I’ve never seen so much smoke and mirrors. The match was Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest fighting, constant interference, everything to distract you from it.
Where this leaves Jinder Mahal in the pecking order on the WWE roster remains to be seen. It also remains to be seen what will happen to the World Heavyweight Championship if Rollins’ injury proves to be serious.
