Why WWE Didn’t Cancel CM Punk’s Match On RAW

CM Punk competed in a #1 Contender’s bout on Monday Night RAW.

Punk faced Jey Uso and LA Knight in a triple threat match, with the winner challenging the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI.

However, Rollins was reported to have suffered a legitimate injury at Crown Jewel on October 11.

So, if the promotion knew about the injury, why did Punk, or Uso & Knight, for that matter, have to wrestle to determine the No. 1 contender, where The Second City Saint emerged as the winner?

During a recent Busted Open Podcast episode, Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley revealed that the company had to deliver on the match it advertised.

He (Rollins) might be hurt, it might be bad, right? You advertised the No. 1 Contender’s match. You stick with the match that you advertised because we’re not really sure if Seth’s hurt. You get your No. 1 contender. [16:41 onwards]

The 54-year-old then questioned the need for Rollins to take the spear from Bron Breakker if he was legitimately injured, thus speculating about another ‘fake injury’ angle.

WWE Forced To Alter The Card For The Upcoming Japan Tour

Seth Rollins’ injury has come as a blow to WWE.

For over a month now, the Stamford promotion has advertised its two-night Japan tour, where CM Punk is set to headline the shows.

During Night 1 on October 17, Punk was scheduled to take on Seth Rollins for the gold, whereas on Night 2, The Vision would come up against the trio of Punk, Jey Uso, and Shinsuke Nakamura.

However, Rollins’ injury and the subsequent betrayal by The Vision has led to WWE altering the original card.

Now, the 46-year-old will challenge Dominik Mysterio on Night 1, while during Night 2, Bron Breakker and Broson Reed will face Punk and Nakamura in a tag team match.
