Vince McMahon Believed To Have Larger Role Behind The Scenes In WWE

Vince McMahon

There is more speculation regarding the current role that Vince McMahon has behind the scenes in WWE despite what people in the company may claim.

Since the start of 2023, Vince McMahon has been back in the headlines since he returned to WWE as the Executive Chairman.

Vince’s WWE return happened because he said he wants to explore the possibility of selling WWE instead of simply going to the highest bidder for media rights for Raw & Smackdown. The TV deals expire in October 2024, so there should be new deals or a company sale within the first six months of WWE.

The asking price for WWE is apparently as high as $9 billion although that amount hasn’t been confirmed and the company could certainly go for less than that.

Last week at the March 6th edition of Raw in Boston, Vince McMahon was backstage at a WWE show for the first time since he “retired” in July 2022. Vince was apparently in the “Gorilla” position all night with Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Bruce Prichard as they ran the show.

One of the most popular theories as to why Vince was at the March 6th Raw (but not other major WWE shows like Raw 30 or the Royal Rumble) is that he was there to visit his good friend John Cena. Vince apparently also has a Gomez Addams-like mustache now as well.

During an appearance on Sunday Night’s Main Event, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer noted that while Triple H is still in charge of WWE creatively, there might be more to the story regarding the 77-year-old McMahon.

“That’s what they want you to believe…Triple H was in charge. But I mean, he has influence on stuff now and Triple H has even said so. You know, they talk about it. Triple H is the one in charge but Vince offers his opinion. And that’s natural.”

“I talked to somebody there, you know about that, like that night, and it was just like, that’s what they want you to believe. But, you know, Levesque is the one in charge. He was the one giving all the orders and everything like that, but Vince was there and whatever that means long run, you know, we’ll see.”

Meltzer would go on to claim that there was more to it than simply Vince McMahon wanting to see Cena.

“I’m just kind of told it’s more than that. When I said that’s what they want you to believe, that means that there’s more to it than that.”

While Vince McMahon was at last week’s Raw in Boston, there were no reports of Vince being at Smackdown last Friday in Pittsburgh. With the 39th WrestleMania set to take place in less than three weeks, it will be interesting to see if Vince McMahon will be there considering he was the man that created the event and was in charge of the first 38 WrestleMania events.
