Tony Khan Opens Up About Relationship With NJPW

Tony Khan AEW

Tony Khan has vowed to work closely with NJPW following Jon Moxley’s recent IWGP Heavyweight Championship win.

Moxley defeated Tetsuya Naito at NJPW Windy City Riot on 12th April to lift the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for the first time, a victory that has been greeted with delight by AEW President Tony Khan.

Speaking during a media call ahead of AEW Dynasty, Khan admitted that it was a ‘dream’ for for him to be able to showcase the NJPW title on AEW programming and vowed to work closely with the organisation to ensure that the belt would be defended periodically on AEW television moving forward:

“Gedo is the matchmaker there, we share a person who’s very close to both of us, Rocky Romero is a vice president in both companies and is a great intermediary and partner for both of us.

We work together very closely, and to sanction the championship, that is Gedo’s decision. If the championship is defended in AEW, then it’s a mutual decision.”

Fans won’t have to wait long for Moxley’s first title defence after he agreed to defend his newly won Championship against Powerhouse Hobbs on the 24th April edition of Dynamite.

Tony Khan Lifts Lid On AEW Future

41 year-old Khan has recently confirmed that he has no plans to step away from the day to day running of AEW.

Khan currently juggles his wrestling involvement alongside executive roles with NFL franchise Jacksonville Jaguars and Premier League side Fulham but insists he still enjoys the pressure of combining the tasks. He did, however, concede that he will continue to review his position on an annual basis.
