Ric Flair Dying To Go One On One With Major AEW Star
Ric Flair wants to make a splash in AEW.
On November 2nd it was announced that Ric Flair has signed a huge multi-year deal with AEW. The Nature Boy’s Wooooo! Energy drink will become the official energy drink of AEW as part of the new agreement.
Speaking in a new interview with Variety, Flair expressed his excitement at the deal. The 16-time World Champion went on to say he’s still the best talker in the game, before setting his sights on tangling on the microphone with MJF.
“I can still talk better than anybody. They’ll find out if they turn me loose,” he added with a laugh. “I’m dying to go one on one with MJF, man. It would get a rating too. ‘Let’s talk, young man.'”
What Does WWE Think Of Ric Flair Joining AEW?
Despite previous difficulties, Ric Flair had enjoyed a positive relationship with WWE in more recent times, appearing on the 30th anniversary special episode of Raw in January, before inducting the Great Muta into the Hall of Fame. His daughter Charlotte also remains one of the biggest stars in the company.
This has led some to wonder whether the new deal with AEW followed some kind of fall-out with WWE.
Elsewhere during the conversation, the WWE Hall of Famer was quick to put the rumours to bed, commenting that he’s heard nothing negative.
“I don’t think anybody at WWE begrudges me. I’ve earned their respect and I respect them,” he said. “I haven’t heard one negative word from anybody over there, because I think they feel I’ve earned the right to go out and do what I want to do.”
A new update from Fightful Select notes that the deal is similar to the agreement that took Randy Savage to WCW in the 1990s. This means that the energy drink company will cover a “significant portion” of his salary.
AEW sources state that other motivations for doing the deal with Flair include opportunities linked to merchandise, video games, and action figures.
