Ahead of Crown Jewel, WWE released several talents from its developmental brands.

One of the names that shocked wrestling fans was that of Wes Lee, who is a former one-time NXT North American Champion and a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion.

Fightful Select has revealed the reason why the 30-year-old was let go.

A genuinely surprised fan asked Sean Ross Sapp about the reason behind Wes Lee’s WWE release, even before he made it to the main roster.

Sapp expressed his own surprise with Lee’s departure from the promotion and claimed that he did not have any backstage heat nor was he injured.

He explained that the promotion simply made the call as part of its annual releases. Lee has previously wrestled in companies like TNA, Dragon Gate, Lucha Underground, and All American Wrestling.

Released WWE Star Contacts Tony Khan

While what’s next for Wes Lee remains to be seen, another WWE star who was released alongside Lee has attempted to join All Elite Wrestling.

BJ Ray was also on the list of Stamford promotion’s recent releases.

Ray was a regular on WWE Legends & Future Generations (LFG), with his last appearance coming on September 21.

He was also infamous for his feud with his coach and Hall of Famer, Bubba Ray Dudley, during the show’s first season.

BJ Ray did not wait long to get signed by another promotion, as he took to X and sent a tweet directly tagging AEW President Tony Khan, where he also labeled himself as ‘the ratings machine.’

AEW has a history of recruiting talent from its rival promotion, and only time will tell whether or not it gives Ray a chance.
