Gunther Scoffs At Recent Criticism As John Cena Match Nears

Gunther on WWE Raw

Gunther has little time for critics.

On December 13, John Cena will wrestle his final match, and he’s adamant that it’s the last time fans will see him in a WWE ring. While the strength of wrestling retirements has traditionally depended on the money available, Cena has vowed to be different.

This means that after his match with Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event and countless matches against the very best WWE has ever seen, Cena will hang up his boots.

While many are looking forward to the match, some fans believe that the former World Champion isn’t the right final opponent for Cena, and the spot should have gone to someone younger and more in need of a boost.

Gunther Remains Unmoved

In a new interview with New York Post Sports, Gunther looked ahead to the match before being asked about those who think he shouldn’t be facing Cena at all.

“I’m not bothered. I went out on Raw on Monday to send a few words towards him as the only chance I had, and I could feel that energy from the audience where it’s kind of like they don’t want me to stand there and claim that for me. But I enjoyed it. I think that’s great. That’s what I’m here for, to antagonize people and if they are antagonized which they seem to be, then I succeeded and I thrive off that.”

When asked whether he would have liked to have an in-ring promo with Cena before the match, he said that it would have been a great experience.

“Oh yeah, for sure. I mean, he’s like maybe the best on the mic to ever do it or one of the best. People can argue whatever they want about those things but he’s definitely in the top category. So it would have been good for experience-wise to get the chance. Didn’t work out. It’s fine. It is what it is. I’m more focused on the match anyway.”

Speaking elsewhere, Gunther reflected on retiring Goldberg.
