Former Champion Confesses WWE Locker Room Hated Him
An ex-WWE champion recently spoke about their equation with other wrestlers in the locker room.
Maven is a former 3-time Hardcore Champion, who was usually featured in the midcard during the early 2000s.
Unlike many performers, he made his way into the main roster by winning the 2001 season of Tough Enough, a reality TV show the promotion used to find new talent.
Every wrestler who has been in the WWE has at least one backstage story that has stumped the fans.
In the past, Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley shared his experience of facing racism from a fellow Hall of Famer, who was recently revealed as the legendary commentator Jim Ross.
During an appearance on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Maven was asked about facing any such untoward experience backstage owing to his African ancestry.
While Maven did not directly confirm being a victim of racism, he did speak about receiving heat.
If I did, they, I mean, they had other…plenty of other reasons to have heat towards me just by the way I came into the business. I mean, we hear of Tough Enough now and however many seasons they’ve done, and when you would look at guys that were graduates of Tough Enough—The Miz, John Morrison, Ryback—you know, guys that did more in the business than I did. You see how successful it was.
But when I came in, I mean, they had no clue. And guys hated me for coming in that way. So, they had plenty of other things to hate me for other than my peanut butter complective skin. [37:59 onwards]
WWE Legend Jim Ross Keeps Mum About Health Issues
AEW commentator and WWE icon Jim Ross opted for silence about possible health issues.
Ross’ absence has been noted by fans, as he has not made consistent appearances at AEW’s pay-per-view main events.
A few months ago, the 73-year-old underwent surgery for colon cancer, later revealing that he was cancer-free.
JR’s absence also comes at a time when D-Von Dudley has hit him with accusations of being racist back in the day. Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer has stated that he may be dealing with a health issue.
