A 3-time WWE Champion has confirmed their retirement from wrestling.

Maven began his stint with the Stamford promotion by participating in the inaugural edition of Tough Enough in 2001, which he ultimately went on to win.

In October of that same year, he made his in-ring debut on SmackDown against Tazz, who submitted him to Tazzmission.

The two began a brief feud until he came across The Undertaker.

In WWE, Maven’s biggest accomplishment is arguably eliminating The Deadman at the 2002 Royal Rumble, which kicked off their rivalry.

He attempted a similar move at the 2003 Royal Rumble, but The Undertaker was better prepared this time around.

Maven spent his stint with the company as a midcarder, winning the Hardcore Championship thrice. He was released in July 2005.

In 2020, WWE offered to train him as an announcer, but the deal did not come to pass after the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

Former WWE Champion Maven Confirms Retirement From Wrestling

Maven recently appeared on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, where he shared details about his wrestling journey and his time after.

When asked if he still sees himself as a wrestler, the 48-year-old replied with a “no,” but claimed that he still gets recognized for his Tough Enough win and for answering wrestling questions on his YouTube channel.

No. In a grocery store a few months back, and normally somebody comes up to me [and says], ‘You’re that guy who won Tough Enough.’ Yeah, yeah. I had somebody come up to me and say, ‘You’re that guy that talks about wrestling and answers questions on YouTube, aren’t you?’ And I was like, I suppose I am.

But I’m fine with that. I’m okay with ageing. I’m okay with I just can’t do what I used to do, and I’m okay with advancing into just the next parts of my life. I’ve watched these guys now. They’re so much more athletic than I was, and obviously am now. Yeah, I’m perfectly fine with not being a wrestler anymore.
