Key Executive Originally Hated WWE Unreal Documentary
A WWE executive wanted to keep the mystery.
On July 29, WWE Unreal hit Netflix, promising a look behind the scenes of the sports entertainment giant like never before. The docuseries even took cameras into the usually mysterious writers’ room to show how matches and storylines are put together.
Despite some fans welcoming the new insight, others felt that it still presented a stage-managed version of events and that some things should remain a mystery. One of the show’s biggest critics, Stone Cold Steve Austin, echoed those thoughts.
WWE Executive Took A Little Convincing
Despite that criticism, Triple H has repeatedly and strongly backed the project in public. But that doesn’t mean that everyone “in the office” was immediately on board. During a new interview with Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata, Bruce Prichard admitted that he hated the idea of the docuseries.
“I hated it at first. I really did. Believe or not, pretty private person anyway. But, to discuss business for the world to see how and why we do the things that we do, that was always the mystery.
That was always the untold and when we did it, it’s like, ‘Okay, if we do this, we’re gonna go all in’ and we have cameras everywhere, and what happens is you forget you’re on camera when you do that, because, they’re just in your face. There’s people shooting over there, there’s people shooting over there, people shooting up there, down there, everywhere, and you let your guard down.
The ‘Unreal’ is very real. It’s obviously edited and it’s an entertainment show and it’s a docuseries, I’ll call it. But, I think it’s been fun and it’s given the audience an insight as to this is more than two guys in their underwear wrestling in a ring.”
In recent days, it was confirmed that WWE Unreal will return to Netflix for a second season on January 20, 2026. As noted in the announcement, the new season will include Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Rhea Ripley, Cody Rhodes, Naomi, and many more big names.
