Ex-WWE Champion Reacts To Fans Chanting His Name During Live Show
An ex-WWE World Champion has spoken after hearing fans chant his name during live shows.
Alberto Del Rio is a controversial wrestler who recently left AAA after returning in 2023.
He is also a former 4-time World Champion in the Stamford promotion, whose comeback has only gained momentum since his AAA exit.
During the WWE-AAA Worlds Collide XXXIII event, fans cheered for Del Rio during a segment featuring Rey Mysterio, forcing him to address the Las Vegas audience, as he said, “I’ll bring him, wait for me.”
Whether or not he returns to the company remains to be seen. Nevertheless, industry insiders claim that people within the company have pushed for his return.
Del Rio’s time in WWE was marred by controversies, including an incident wherein he was involved in an altercation with an employee.
He was previously suspended for violating the company’s wellness policy. Outside the ring, he faced serious legal issues, including charges of sexual assault of an ex-partner and kidnapping.
Del Rio enjoyed multiple stints with the promotion before being released for the final time in September 2016.
Ex-WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio Addresses Fan Chants
Alberto Del Rio recently spoke to Eduardo Bates, where he talked about fans chanting his name at the WWE-AAA Worlds Collide event.
Well, that’s something nobody can decide for the fans. The fans love or hate whoever they want. Social media, the internet, television—they just spread it. Some do it truthfully, others just want likes, views, or a bit of relevance for a week. We are the protagonists, the ones who step into the ring to give our all.
The 48-year-old even extended sympathy towards El Hijo del Vikingo, who defeated him for the AAA Mega Championship a few months ago and has since been booed by the fans.
I have nothing but respect for El Hijo del Vikingo. He’s a great wrestler, a great prospect for our business, someone who will go far. But the fans were the ones who felt unsatisfied, who felt deceived or betrayed. I just go out and do my job. [H/T: Ringside News]
