Alberto Del Rio Needs To Mend Fences Despite AAA Return
After Alberto Del Rio returned to the ring for AAA, the question of his return to the WWE-owned promotion has arisen again.
Ahead of WrestleMania 41 night one, WWE announced the acquisition of the famous Mexican Promotion AAA. Michael Cole broke the news during the WrestleMania 41 pre-show, shortly after a new Worlds Collide event involving talent from NXT and AAA was announced. One of AAA’s biggest stars was former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio, leading to speculation that he could eventually return to the US once again.
It’s been repeatedly reported that WWE had no interest in bringing back Alberto Del Rio, with one source noting there was “no f*cking way” he’d return.
However, Del Rio was back in action for AAA at a live event on September 26th, so what’s really going on?
Alberto Del Rio Needs To Build Bridges With WWE
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared some more insight into why Alberto Del Rio is unlikely to return to AAA proper now that it’s under the WWE umbrella:
Alberto wrestled at a AAA-affiliated show in Tijuana, and he got an incredible reaction. But I don’t anticipate him being on the main shows at least, I just don’t anticipate it. I think if he was gonna be there, he’d already be there. I don’t know, the announcers still talk about him, so if it was the United States, I’d say he’s definitely gonna be there.
But there’s a lot of heat with a lot of people there. There are fences that have to be mended, and I suppose they could be. But in Mexico, they don’t care about the stuff that we do here at all, and because of that, he’s a superhero there.
