Edge “Might Be Interested” In Going To AEW

Edge making his debut at AEW is entirely down to the man himself.

With The Rated R Superstar’s WWE contract expiring at midnight on September 30th, a debut at the WrestleDream pay-per-view the next day is very much a possibility. As The Ultimate Opportunist will be 50 years old at the end of October, the signing would be very much short-term. However, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, multiple factors would point to there being an interest in making the former World Champion All Elite.

The report mentions that the promotion has put a significant amount of support behind Edge’s best friend Christian Cage, making Cage the TNT Champion despite also being of a veteran status. Along with this, negotiations between AEW and the Hall of Famer were underway shortly before The Rated R Superstar made his shock return at the 2020 Royal Rumble. The report concludes by saying that “the ball is in Edge’s court.”

Will Edge Join AEW?

The former World Champion hit the headlines shortly before the August 18th episode of SmackDown that celebrated his 25th anniversary with the company. Heading into his match with Sheamus, the Hall of Famer revealed that his current contract with WWE would be expiring imminently and the SmackDown match in Toronto would be his last.

Following news that a new deal had yet to be signed, rumours that the WrestleMania main eventer may wrestle in another promotion for the first time in over 2 decades started to circulate, forcing the former World Champion to break his silence on social media. The two-time Royal Rumble winner shot down rumours of there being heat between himself and WWE, saying that “there is nothing going on” and he was assessing his options for the future.
