Cody Rhodes wants a legend to return.

Steve Austin last competed in a WWE ring at WrestleMania 38 where he rolled back the years to beat Kevin Owens. The match was Austin’s first since 2003, and after surpassing expectations, he’s had numerous opportunities to return since.

Most recently, Steve Austin turned down the chance to be part of WrestleMania 40.

In the main event, WWE had hoped Austin would make a cameo opposite The Rock, a role eventually taken by The Undertaker. Following the show it was reported that Austin chose to miss the event after failing to reach a “financial agreement” with WWE.

With rumours flying that Austin could appear at WrestleMania 41, Cody Rhodes was asked about a potential return for the Texas Rattlesnake in a new interview with Gabby LaSpisa. Rhodes said he’d love to see the legend back in any kind of capacity.

“Steve Austin is, from a dollars and cents standpoint, the most profitable wrestler ever. From guys who like and study the business of it, that’s the benchmark and where you want to get. In addition to being all that, more memories than anyone could possibly provide.

WWE at the time needed, WWE doesn’t need things that often, at that time they needed Stone Cold Steve Austin, and he pulled [WWE] out of the spot it was in and made everybody rich and brought a whole new flavor to the industry.

I’d love to see him in any capacity. He over-delivered with Kevin Owens. If that was the end, that’s a great end. Kevin Owens did an incredible job there too. I feel like he hasn’t punched his legends card enough. He could just come in and tag with somebody. I know he probably wants it to be at the highest of levels, but you’re a legend, you can do whatever you want.”

Cody Rhodes Might Get His Wish

During a recent interview, Steve Austin dropped the biggest hint yet that he could appear at WrestleMania 41.

Although the veteran is content with life on his ranch and competing in long-distance buggy races, the old Stone Cold still lurks beneath. After pointing out that he said he didn’t want to leave Nevada, Austin quipped that WrestleMania 41 would be held in Las Vegas… Nevada.
