Chris Jericho Got “This Close” To Cinematic Mike Tyson Match
Chris Jericho nearly faced off against one of the most iconic boxers of all time.
Mike Tyson was brought into AEW in 2020 and 2021, being heavily involved with Jericho in his appearances. The debut saw Tyson go nose-to-nose with Jericho while the return saw Tyson come to the aid of Le Champion and see Iron Mike join The Inner Circle. In regards to what happens while the cameras are rolling, Mike Tyson does whatever he wants to do.
With cinematic matches being the theme of pandemic wrestling, the former AEW World Champion revealed plans for a scrapped pre-taped match in All Elite Wrestling that would have seen him fight The Baddest Man on the Planet.
Speaking on the AEW-Some Podcast, Jericho detailed what the match would have looked like and where the planned location would be for the encounter:
“Mike Tyson and I almost had a cinematic match. We were this close to doing it, Tyson vs. Jericho in a New York Street Fight, but we couldn’t make it happen. We really were deep in negotiations too. We were going to do it in New York in an alley, like an alley fight, basically. Think ‘They Live’ with Tyson and Jericho, that’s what I had in mind,”
While not in AEW, Mike Tyson would return to in-ring action in November 2020, facing Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match that ended in a split draw.
