Chris Jericho Recalls Controversial AEW Pizza Cutter Spot

Nick Gage Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho doesn’t that the uproar over his pizza cutter spot with Nick Gage was as bad as some people have said.

AEW found themselves in hot water some years ago when Chris Jericho competed against indy and deathmatch mainstay Nick Gage. Part of Gage’s gimmick is his willingness to hurt his opponents with whatever object is within reach.

That gimmick was on full display on the July 28, 2021 episode of AEW Dynamite when Gage started slicing Jericho’s head with a pizza cutter to make it bleed more.

The sight of such a violent act was one thing, but what made it so memorable was the fact that, when Dynamite went to picture-and-picture, the first thing to appear next to this sight was a Domino’s pizza ad.

Chris Jericho found the pizza cutter/Domino’s coincidence amusing

Speaking on his Talk is Jericho podcast, Chris Jericho was more amazed by the incredibly unlikelihood of that particular advertisement airing at that exact moment than anything else.

“The awesome part is he took out his pizza cutter which was one of his gimmicks and he was carving my forehead with a pizza cutter as we went into picture in picture break with, you could never predict this in a million years.

As he’s carving my forehead with a pizza cutter. There’s a Domino’s Pizza ad on the big part of the picture in picture with a kid cutting a pizza with a pizza cutter. Right.

And there was such a brouhaha about it and I was like no if I was Domino’s I would hire Nick Gage and Chris Jericho to do a commercial ASAP. You know what I mean? Like, I would be taking advantage of this, this display of barbarism, barbarism, whatever you want to say.”

Although it made for an interesting headline at the time, Domino’s ended up pulling their ad from AEW over the extreme level of violence shown in the match.
