Massive Update On AJ Lee’s WWE Status & WrestleMania Plans
AJ Lee returned to WWE last year.
After being away from WWE for nearly a decade, The Geek Goddess made her surprise return ahead of Wrestlepalooza 2025 to join her husband, CM Pun,k in a feud against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
Shortly after her return, a video clip was shared on the internet where she was seen signing a new contract with WWE. At the time, it was reported that Lee had signed a full-time contract with the company. But she has only wrestled two matches so far.
AJ Lee Is Not A WWE Full Timer
Sean Ross Saap on the Fightful Select Q&A Show on January 3, 2026, clarified that AJ Lee’s contract is not full-time, which has now become obvious with Lee’s occasional booking.
“That’s why when AJ Lee came back and people reported, ‘Oh, she’s back, and it’s full-time,’ I think—back in December—I was like, well, hold on. That is not what is being relayed to me. Which doesn’t mean that it’s not true… but this was very clearly not going to be a full-time run.”
Sapp also commented on the idea of Becky Lynch and AJ Lee facing each other at WrestleMania 42, hinting that the match-up might happen.
“She’s done two matches since she came back in—what was it, September or something? And when it was hinted at me, ‘Oh, well, she’ll probably be facing Becky at Mania’—and that’s a probably, it’s not worth reporting—but I was looking at it, and I was like, well, how on Earth are they going to stretch that out seven months if she’s full-time? Well, she’s not full-time. That’s why.”
The last time AJ Lee wrestled in a match was at Survivor Series, when she was part of the women’s WarGames match. She is rumored to make her return at the Royal Rumble in Riyadh, where she’ll participate in the women’s Royal Rumble match.
