AJ Lee’s WWE Deal Reportedly Closed Ahead Of Wrestlepalooza
Discussions about AJ Lee’s return to WWE have dominated sports entertainment over the last 48 hours.
During the Clash in Paris PLE main event, just when CM Punk looked to have found a way to defeat Seth Rollins and reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship, a masked individual’s interference altered the result.
The masked personality was revealed as the Women’s Intercontinental Champion and Rollins’ wife Becky Lynch after she hit a low blow on Punk, costing him the gold.
On the September 1 WWE RAW episode, the Voice of the Voiceless expected a face-to-face confrontation with The Visionary.
However, it was Lynch who showed up in the ring to Rollins’ entrance music. What followed was a heated verbal exchange between the two.
The segment then ended with the ‘Irish Lasskicker’ slapping Punk numerous times while daring him to do something about it.
The 46-year-old chose to remove himself from the ring without escalating it further.
WWE Personality Claims AJ Lee’s Return Deal Reportedly Closed
WWE’s next premium live event is Wrestlepalooza, scheduled for September 20.
The event will also be the Stamford promotion’s first on ESPN after both parties recently signed a streaming partnership for the United States audiences.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer claimed that WWE may have already closed the deal on AJ Lee’s return to the promotion after a decade.
They’re (WWE) definitely gonna peak. This is not your normal monthly pay-per-view at all that they’re running on that show.
I gotta think that they’re not going this far without the [AJ Lee] deal already made. [H/T: Ringside News]
Meltzer also lauded the RAW segment between CM Punk and Becky Lynch, stating it raised the stakes for AJ Lee’s return.
Meanwhile, neither the promotion nor the 38-year-old former wrestling sensation has made any official statement.
In other news, another former WWE Divas Champion’s name is also being thrown into the hat. Read about it here.
