Could Paige Be CM Punk’s Partner Rather Than AJ Lee?
WWE fans are salivating at the prospect of AJ Lee making her return to the company, but what if she’s not the partner for CM Punk after all?
At Clash In Paris, Becky Lynch stunned the world as she screwed CM Punk as he was set to win the World Heavyweight Championship. Lynch delivered a low blow to Punk, which allowed her husband, Seth Rollins, to hit Punk with a Stomp and retain his title.
Immediately, fans went into booking mode, imagining a husband and wife mixed tag team match for the ages. Would Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch really team up to face CM Punk and his wife, former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee? The world is certainly hoping so.
On the 1st of September edition of Raw, AJ Lee’s return was teased again as Becky Lynch acknowledged fans chanting for the star. While Punk demanded to go face-to-face with Rollins, he had to make do with being slapped down by Lynch. Punk promised that Rollins would regret cashing in for the World Heavyweight Title against him and that Lynch would feel the same about putting her hands on him.
AJ Lee has not been seen in WWE in over ten years, and the clamour for a return for the star is reaching a fever pitch. But with a lack of in-ring action over the last decade might mean WWE is actually looking for someone else to join Punk, and it could be someone AJ Lee knows very well.
“Hi guys, Paige here!” – Could AJ Lee’s Old Rival Make Shock WWE Return?
Paige burst onto the WWE main roster on the night after WrestleMania 30 when she shockingly defeated AJ Lee for the Divas Title. This set off a chain of events that made them inseparable over the following year, trading the Divas Championship back and forward several times before they found themselves on the same side of the ring.
At WrestleMania 31, Lee and Paige teamed up to defeat The Bellas, and one night later, they teamed again with Naomi on their side to defeat The Bellas and Natalya. That turned out to be the final match of AJ Lee’s career…so far.
Paige was forced to retire from the ring due to a serious neck injury in late 2017, but she resurfaced as Saraya in 2022, where she resumed her in-ring career. She had her final match in Tony Khan’s company in October 2024 before she left the company in 2025.
Paige has been very open about a possible return to WWE, and given that she’s now cleared to be in the ring, it’s feasible that a huge comeback could be on the cards.
However, while WWE fans seem thrilled at the thought of AJ Lee making her return, the online chatter is not the same when it comes to Paige. The same enthusiasm doesn’t seem to exist for the English star, and that means if WWE chose to go with her as Punk’s potential partner, even if they play up her relationship with AJ Lee, it would only be met with crushing disappointment.
It remains to be seen when and where any mixed tag team match would take place, but a good bet would be Wrestlepalooza on September 20th, a show that goes head-to-head with Punk and Paige’s former workplace, AEW.
