AEW’s Rey Fenix Won’t Stay Where He’s Not Wanted

Rey Fenix AEW

Rey Fenix has issued a fresh hint that he wishes to leave AEW once his contract with the company expires.

The former AEW Tag Team Champion looked set to switch to WWE alongside older brother Penta in late 2024 before the company exercised the option to extend his current deal due to time missed with injury.

The 34 year-old has not featured on AEW television since a 20th July victory over Tony Nese on Collision and recently opened up about his current status in an interview with Lalo Elizarrarás.

The Mexican star confirmed that he was waiting to be called back to work before confirming that he would not stay in the company beyond his current deal if he wasn’t wanted:

“My life has always been about wrestling and it’s not like I stopped training. On the contrary, I have more time to train. I have more time to perfect my skills. I have more time to create new things, to work on my injuries, to work on my body, and mainly, to work on my head.

I’m doing personal projects, like buying my house and a future for my children, but I could have had the option of continuing to work every weekend, but nobody stays in a place where they are not wanted.

It’s very difficult to wear the shirt of one relationship when you need the other party to back you up, to support you, or simply not ask for anything exaggerated that you deserve as an athlete and as part of the relationship.

Basically I’m still under contract with an additional extension. I am waiting to be used, to be called to work, or to have my situation clarified a little more.”

Rey Fenix Responds To WWE Speculation

Despite hinting that his relationship with AEW would end following the expiration of his contract, Rey Fenix has refused to be drawn on speculation of a switch to WWE.

Fenix instead insisted that professionalism was his main priority and shared his view that the business needed to be respected by not commenting on rival promotions.
