AEW Star Had To Wrestle Without Their Gear On Dynamite
Tony Khan was forced into some last-minute changes for AEW Dynamite.
Dynamite in Denver was the final edition of AEW’s flagship show before WrestleDream emanates from Seattle on October 1st. Adam Cole appeared on Dynamite with some bad news, however, as he revealed that he will have to undergo surgery on his injured ankle but MJF has vowed to keep defending the ROH Tag Team Championship so Better Than You Bay-Bay don’t have to relinquish their gold.
Jay White had put MJF on notice that he was coming after the AEW World Title but the night ended with Switchblade being attacked backstage by several masked assailants.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted that the late changes were noticeable through Nick Jackson’s wrestling attire as he had not shown up to the building with his gear as he was not originally set to compete on it:
“Nick [Jackson] showed up at the building with no gear, because he didn’t know he was going to wrestle. So they had to piece an outfit together for this guy.”
AEW International Title match “almost didn’t happen”
Dave Meltzer added that the show had to be changed and Rey Fenix had not been cleared to compete until late in the day:
“They had to change the show round. There was something. Okay, so the Fenix match almost didn’t happen. Because Fenix, because of the injury that you talked about, Fenix was not cleared or I should say it was up in the air whether he would be cleared. He had not been cleared he did get cleared to wrestle in this match, but it was not until late in the afternoon.
“So they had apparently put together a show without him and then they had to change it to put that match, you know, the match with Jarrett on, which was basically a late addition to the show. So and then Moxley wasn’t cleared due to the concussion. And so anyway yeah, a lot of stuff. A lot of planned stuff must have changed because of all that.”
There were also some technical issues that affected Dynamite’s transmission in North America which caused Tony Khan to issue an apology after the show.
