Adam Page Collision Ban Could Have Been Tony Khan Call
Adam Page was told to stay away from Collision.
The conflict between CM Punk and Adam Page is now well known in wrestling circles after Punk made their issues very public live on AEW television back in 2022. CM Punk was unhappy with a promo Page cut in the build-up to their match at Double Or Nothing that year and was even more unhappy that he caught an errant chop in the face from Page during that bout.
Now their issues have come to light once again as after Collision on the 12th of August, CM Punk lambasted Page to the live crowd. Punk referred to Page as a “peg-hanger” noting that the Hangman’s merchandise is the one left hanging in stores while his sells out.
Dave Meltzer reported as part of the Wrestling Observer Daily Update that the Punk promo was not part of a storyline. Interestingly, it seems Adam Page was sent to Greensboro to record a pre-tape interview for Wednesday’s Dynamite but when he arrived in the city he was told that he could not do it in the Greensboro Coliseum where Collision was taking place. CM Punk’s side is saying that he was not behind Page being asked not to attend the building.
Did Tony Khan keep Adam Page away from Collision?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted that Adam Page not being allowed in the building on Saturday could have been a Tony Khan call given what happened between CM Punk and another AEW talent:
“There were claims that he said that he did not have Hangman removed or not allowed to be at the building on Saturday. Obviously, many people in the company believed that he did. Although I did hear from people that said they would not be surprised that because of what happened earlier with Ryan Nemeth that it was in fact management’s call or Tony Khan’s to not have Hangman come to the building after what happened to Ryan Nemeth.
“I did talk to people who think that could be true and that Punk had nothing to do with it, and that decision was made because of what happened with Nemeth. They figured let’s not have any more issues here, Hangman does not need to be in the building for this, let’s have him go elsewhere. There are people who believe this is true and there are people who don’t and believe it was Punk. But Punk’s side is claiming they are not responsible for Hangman not being allowed in the building.
It has also been reported that CM Punk reached out to Adam Page to apologise for his comments with the belief being that Punk attempted to do a comedy line which quickly backfired on him.
