There is a major update on two of the major men’s title matches that might take place at WWE WrestleMania 39 next April.

With Roman Reigns ending the year as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, there are plenty of questions about who he might face at WrestleMania.

WrestlingNewsco has tweeted about what WWE is planning for Roman’s two titles at WrestleMania 39 on April 1st and 2nd. What’s interesting about it is that he might lose one of those titles soon. Here’s what they wrote about it:

“WrestlingNews.co is told that this is the current plan for the main event matches for WrestleMania:

Night 1
WWE Championship
Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre or Cody Rhodes

Night 2
Roman Reigns vs. TBD. If The Rock can’t do the show then the plan is for Cody Rhodes to take the spot

It’s not clear yet how the company will split the WWE Championship and Universal Championship but the idea is for each brand to have a top title heading into the summer.”

As we have reported previously, Reigns is likely going to defend his two titles against Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble and Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber. This was originally reported by WrestlingNewsco as well, which we covered here. By watching WWE programming, it seems obvious that the Reigns-Owens plan is moving forward. That suggests that their reporting has been accurate.

Seth “Freakin” Rollins with the WWE Title makes a lot of sense because then one of WWE’s top two male titles would be on Raw again. However, it’s not known when Rollins would win it or how. There are a lot of options like triple threat matches (to prevent Reigns from being pinned) or other twists that could come along in the weeks and months ahead.

The participation of The Rock at WrestleMania 39 is a big question mark because as the Wrestling Observer Newsletter updates all the time, it all comes down to if The Rock is able to wrestle Reigns due to his schedule and his willingness to do it.

Cody Rhodes is expected to return to WWE in early 2023 after having surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle with a recent report noting he might be the “thickest” he has ever been. Cody is back doing promotional work for WWE while his wife Brandi said he looks ready, but it’s not up to her.

While his titles won’t be on the line before the end of the year, Reigns will be in action this Friday on Smackdown when he teams with Zayn against Owens and a returning John Cena, who will compete in his first WWE match this year. Reigns and Zayn showed a lot of confidence on the December 23rd episode of Smackdown as they prepare for the match.
