WWE To Reunite Popular Tag Team
WWE is getting the band back together.
On January 6, Penta made his WWE debut with a win over Gable on Monday Night Raw. The star’s appearance was one of the worst-kept secrets in wrestling following months of reports indicating he wanted to swap AEW for the sports entertainment giant.
While with AEW, Penta spent much of his run teaming with real-life brother Rey Fenix. However, when Penta left for WWE, Fenix remained under contract, with the company having little intention of letting him go. But that all changed in March.
Rey Fenix is officially a free agent after being released from his contract following talks with Tony Khan.
As reported on Wrestle Votes Radio, Fenix is expected to join WWE in the coming weeks, and he’ll be paired with Penta once again as The Lucha Brothers.
“According to sources, the impending debut of Rey Fenix is indeed happening as his name has begun to resurface on marketing documents once again. That source confirms that a deal between Fenix and the company has either been agreed to in principle or is on the verge of completion as of this writing…
We’re told WWE never had any indications Rey Fenix wouldn’t be joining as it was ‘just a matter of time’. We can also confirm WWE is planning on presenting the team of Penta and Fenix as the Lucha Brothers,”
WWE Working To Sign Top Free Agent
A different report has also claimed that WWE is interested in signing NJPW star Jeff Cobb. The report even cited one source who said Cobb is already listed on the company’s internal roster, despite his current participation in the New Japan Cup.
The star has dropped several hints about his future in recent weeks, commenting that it might be “time to take my bags and go somewhere else.”
Cobb has held talks with WWE previously and came “really close” to signing in mid-2021 before deciding to stay with NJPW, also turning down an offer from AEW in the process.
