WWE Superstar Carlito Reflects On His Beginnings In WWE

In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, WWE Superstar Carlito opened up about his lengthy career in pro wrestling, sharing insights into his memorable debut and early experiences in the WWE.

Carlito, known for his charismatic personality and iconic apple-spitting gimmick, reminisced about the unexpected turn of events that led to the creation of his popular talk show segment, “Carlito’s Cabana.”

I think my first, what, month that I started I got injured. I dislocated my, I think it my left shoulder so they wanted to keep me on TV somehow, so they just thought ok we’ll do a talking segment with him.

The Puerto Rican superstar expressed his enthusiasm for having his own segment, but emphasised that the segment was not part of the original plans for him but rather a creative solution to keep him in the spotlight during his injury.

And it was great for me because I could just go out there and act like a fool which is perfect for me, l don’t mind that at all. There was no plan, it was just something to keep me on TV because I remember I was about a month in and I had just beaten Cena so they didn’t want that to go to waste I guess.

One of the most significant moments in Carlito’s career came during his main roster debut when he defeated John Cena for the United States Championship on SmackDown in 2004.

It was great, at first I thought that Cena had pranked me because as soon as I got there, he was the nicest guy to me, going over everything with me was you know. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

However, Carlito quickly learned about Cena’s intense style in the ring.

And then we get in the ring and the bell rang and he kicked me in the stomach so hard I was like, oh ok, I see I see what’s going on here all right he pranked me, but that’s just the way he worked, and I think that’s the way he still works. He’s a strong boy, he hits hard. Cena is just a big dude, big boned, big strong guy.

After returning to WWE a few years ago, Carlito is still going strong in the company now over 20 years since his initial appearance, and now as a member of The Judgment Day on Monday Night Raw.

Carlito Vows Never To Sign With A Rival Promotion

Also during the interview, Carlito was asked whether he ever considered signing with AEW. The veteran superstar explained, he never really saw the promotion as an option, adding that he’d like to end his career with WWE and stay loyal to them.
