WWE Star Had Triple H & Shawn Michaels “Marking Out” Backstage
Triple H and Shawn Michaels are arguably the two most important men in WWE today when it comes to talent and it’s safe to say the WWE Hall of Famers know what they like.
Triple H built NXT from the ground up welcoming the best rising stars and independent talent from across the globe to the brand in the hopes of them finding worldwide stardom as WWE Superstars. That opportunity was extended across the pond as well when the company launched the NXT UK brand and one of its standout stars was Pete Dunne.
Dunne held the NXT UK Championship for almost two years as he wowed audiences with his technical know-how and hard-hitting in-ring style. Dunne eventually became a fully-fledged member of the NXT brand in the US, winning the NXT Tag Team Championship with Matt Riddle.
In March 2022, Dunne made his official debut on the main roster when he debuted on SmackDown but that did not come without some controversy. Shorn of many of the traits that made him popular, Dunne was renamed Butch as he joined Sheamus and Ridge Holland in the Brawling Brutes.
Speaking on the Touching Grass podcast, former WWE star and Dunne’s former stablemate in British Strong Style, Trent Seven explained just how highly thought of the SmackDown star is by Triple H and Shawn Michaels:
“[Butch is] a badass and Triple H sees it. I remember sat at Gorilla watching Triple H and Shawn [Michaels] watching Pete Dunne and marking [out]. He is that good. That’s the point. Every footage you see of Pete Dunne, he’s working. That’s why he’s just the best.
“Go watch any Pete Dunne match. Not even the ones that are globally famous. There’s not one stage of it where he’s not 100% working, dedicated to getting everything he can out of every move, motion, facial, look, the way he walks to the corner. Everything about him is just hyper-concentrated professional performance.”
Butch was recently a part of an all English tag team match on SmackDown where he and Ridge Holland lost to WWE main roster newcomers Pretty Deadly.
