WWE Star Is “Torn” Regarding Roman Reigns WrestleMania Challengers
When it comes to who should challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, one popular WWE star is torn when it comes to that subject.
There have been a lot of emotions flowing among WWE fans over the last couple of days following the end of the February 2nd edition of WWE Smackdown.
Roman Reigns, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion for the past three and a half years, was in the ring as 2024 Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes was in the ring talking about his WrestleMania 40 title match opportunity. While many fans watching at home were likely hoping that Cody would say he wanted to face Reigns at Wrestlemania for the second year in a row, that’s not what happened.
Instead, Cody said that while he still wants to win the title that Roman holds, there is somebody else whom he took council with who knows Roman very well…it was The Rock, who is Roman’s cousin. Cody left while The Rock had a staredown with Reigns. While WWE never announced that Reigns would face Rock at Wrestlemania 40, it was certainly implied.
Since then, fans have gone online and complained about it a lot while fans at live events have booed videos of The Rock. It has also been revealed that The Rock being on the TKO-WWE Board of Directors is a big reason why he might be wrestling Reigns at WrestleMania 40.
Meanwhile, a video on YouTube showing the end of Smackdown is the most disliked WWE YouTube video in history.
Pat McAfee is a lifelong WWE fan who has worked for the company for many years in different roles and recently rejoined WWE as a Raw announcer with Michael Cole. While speaking on his popular Pat McAfee Show, the former NFL punter admitted he was torn between Cody Rhodes and The Rock as Roman Reigns’ potential WrestleMania 40 opponent.
“Wrestling fans are incredibly pissed off that Cody Rhodes was supposed to get the job done, finally. There is a title, the one that Roman Reigns has, that Dusty Rhodes was handed in Madison Square Garden and then taken away.”
“Everything Cody has been doing, he’s been trying to get the title back into his family, seemingly going to have to wait another few months while The Rock, the biggest star in the world, the biggest star on planet earth will be taking on his cousin Roman Reigns for the Head of the Table conversation, which has been chatted about forever. I love Cody Rhodes, I love The Rock, I love Roman Reigns. I’m very torn on this entire thing. The internet was not happy.”
As an example of WWE fans being unhappy, the phrase #WeWantCody was the number one trending topic in the US on Saturday and in many places around the world.
Roman Reigns WrestleMania 40 Opponent Story Has Pat McAfee Bummed Out
Pat would continue by admitting he doesn’t know what’s going to happen.
“I’m bummed out, I still don’t know what’s going to take place between now and WrestleMania. We’re all pretty bummed out for Cody, but also very pumped this is a Rock-Roman situation. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Obviously, in WWE, you can never know what’s going to take place. Certainly got people pissed off on a Friday.”
This coming Thursday, February 8th, Pat McAfee will be in Las Vegas with the top names in WWE for a WrestleMania 40 Kickoff Press Event.
