WWE Posts Never-Before-Seen Roman Reigns Match On YouTube
A never-before-seen match has been posted to WWE’s YouTube channel with Roman Reigns facing “King” Baron Corbin in singles action.
At WWE television tapings for their weekly Raw and Smackdown television shows, they often have “dark matches” before and after the show. The matches before the show are oftentimes an opportunity to see how a younger talent performs in front of a big crowd while also giving the fans in attendance a bonus match. The post-show match usually features main event-level performers with the babyface beating the heel to send the fans home happy.
While WWE could post dark matches often since they are always recorded, they don’t usually do it. However, the company decided to post a dark match between Roman Reigns and “King” Baron Corbin from February 28, 2020 at a Smackdown taping. This was a few weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down WWE’s live touring business in mid-March 2020 and about six months before Roman’s heel run as “The Tribal Chief” began.
On the YouTube video, there’s some bonus company with The Bump’s hosts Kayla Braxton & Matt Camp along with Baron Corbin and his manager, WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield. Unlike a typical WWE TV match with different camera angles, the feed of this match was only shown from the hard camera.
The match between Reigns and Corbin went about ten minutes with Reigns beating Corbin with a Spear. It’s a result that happened many times when Reigns wrestled Corbin over the years.
On Twitter, WWE revealed they posted this match on Youtube to thank the WWE Universe for having over 92 million subscribers.
“As a thank you to the WWE Universe for helping WWE on @YouTube reach 92.5 million subscribers, we’re showing you a match that has never been televised!”
